Indeed. I have looked thru your build thread. Quite impressive. Looks like you have gotten to see some really cool country. I especially like the military convoy. I have wanted an M35A3 for along time. I look forward to seeing your build continue.

birdduck, shaggy, RMA, anybody who has an idea.

So I have a problem with my IACV. The engine idle wandered up and down from initial start up. I plugged my iacv and set my idle with the set screw. Thought maybe my iacv was stuck so I pulled it off and cleaned it out with carb cleaner to no success. I thought maybe the iacv was bad or ordered another unit and replaced it. Same problem. The idle wanders up and down. I have unplugged the maf to see how it runs. It runs but runs ruff, so I plugged the maf back in and plugged the iacv hose again. It runs great again. I am hoping that somebody has some idea's about what might be causing the idle issue.

Thanks guys. I thought maybe the ecu isn't working properly but don't know the best way to test the power at the iacv or how to mauelly actuate it to the closed position.

OK guys,

I have figured out why the iacv isn't functioning. I have checked voltages at the valve and have no voltage at all after the zrunner is in the on position. I don't know if anybody can get me a copy of their wiring schematics or not, but I would appriciate it if any of you that have done this swap could help me out with this problem. The truck runs fine since I adjusted the idle and plugged the iacv, but I would like to have it functioning correctly.

Last item I am having problems with is the 02 sensors. I have them plugged in but am still throwing errors saying they are not there. Factory 02's so I didn't have to splice. I guess I need to pull the wiring back out and review. SO much for paying somebody to build the wiring harness for me. Still going to have to fix some errors. Goes with the territory!

I am not sure if the iacv wiring harness is supposed to be going thru the factory engine harness into the ecu and I just have a bad ecu, or are they supposed to be plugged in some where else?

As far as wiring schamatics go all of mine are for OBDII systems. The OBDI schamatics that RBX sent me I gave to one of Zack's friends who is doing the same swap. And my ecm controls the idle control motor. That's one of the issues of having someone else wire ur stuff without them giving u the schematic to what they built. So on that note I'm sorry buddy I wouldn't be much help on this one. But I can tell u the computer controls it. U said u don't have power at the valve. Check an see if the ecm is even sending the signal.

I got the issue all figured out. So I spent some time going over schematics. I found the main power wire from the ECU to the IACV. The shop that wired the rig completely forgot to install the power wire to it. So I found a 12 volt ignition wire and made the circuit hot at the ECU side. Once I did that there was power at the 02 sensors as well. Hooking up this one wire fixed the few issues I did have. So I now have everything working and no CEL light anymore.

Yay!!!!

So now that she's running right, what kind of mileage are you seeing?

I can only imagine how it feels to drive a 2nd Gen which is not anemic.

Well, I have been helping a friend move and was using this to haul the 16' trailer loaded with furniture and such. It was local only about 5 miles round trip. I made 10 trips plus some hwy miles unloaded. I will admit that I have been a little heavy on the right foot at stops as I love the sound of duel exhaust on a V8. I averaged 14.5 mpg.

My last tank was all hwy and I was up around 18 mpg.

I love how quick this thing is now. Once you do it you will never want to drive a 3.0 again.

Update: so I need to reduce my gears from 4:88's to 4:56's. I know I can get better mileage out of this thing but it is just gear so low. I can take off in second gear just fine. I am around 3K rpms at 65 mph. I should be able to lower that to about 2500 rpm with a gear swap. I just need to find a rear pumpkin to swap with. I just want to get this perfect so I can get gears for the front pumpkin for the straight axle. Thinking about a high pinion diff out of an FJ80.

On side note, I had some time to spend in the shop today and thought I would kick out a set of sliders. Got them all bent up and welded on the rig today. Looks pretty good at least I think. I sunk some plating just below the rim and put a nice textured underbody finish on them. This should give the kido's a stepping platform to get into the back seats as they have been protesting about getting in, and protect sides from logs and rocks, for the win!!! two birds one stone.

I also got a hold of a trail gear rear bumper its off an 86 that I am going to start parting out here pretty soon. I am thinking about making any adjustments needed and installing on this thing. I think I might plate the sides since these things look pretty ugly with the stock bumper removed. Then its time to bend up a front winch bumper. I also bought metal today to start building my roof basket as well.

I have also been looking at Safari Snorkels. The only thing I can find that exits on the right side of the vehilce is the SS136HF. That is built for the 97+ hiluz down in aussie. I would like to have a snorkel, but its alot of money on modifying one to fit. Anybody have any idea's? No I don't want to make my own out of round PVC plastic that frankly dosen't look very nice. I know its a trail rig, but I wan't it done right. I don't want to have to worry about it once its installed.

No, I got a mini truck axle. I am swapping the ifs parts over and running fj62 disks. This will put my measurements right with no wheel spacers. I then plan on putting a high pinion diff out of an fj80 in it.

The track width of a complete fj80 axle is to wide for my tastes, that and how expensive setting up steering, and getting the suspension to work. I am looking for readily available parts and easy of install.

Update.

So I picked up a warn xd9000i winch on craigslist cheap. This looks brand new, guy sold me the winch plate it was still mounted too and then showed me the jeep he took it off of. He was restoring his wheeling jeep back to stock. Lol, whatever dude.

I am thinking about getting the Marlin Crawler front winch bumper.

I also snagged a complete rebuild kit from Marlin Crawler. Save some coin with the may sale they are having. I also picked up backing plate eliminators, and some other stuff.

I am going to start the tear down on the axle in the next few weeks. I still need to get the truss kit and a few other goodies for the axle.

Next step is deciding which company I am gonna get the actual kit from. I like all pro's stuff, but trail gears stuff is cheaper. I plan on ditching the springs they come with and installing ome 2" springs. I want this to be as low as possible on the lift side if things. I would like to be 4" max.

I am sourcing a complete SC400 motor so I can get the rear sump to fit the sas as the ls400 version of the 1uz will not fit the cross over steering.

It was a 1978 cj7

The Marlin Crawler complete rebuild kit arrived. I am going to pickup an all pro cross over steering kit from another member on here tomorrow.

Last thing I need will be to find a diff with 4.88s and we will be ready to tear this axle down and put it back together again. More to come

Some of those old Jeep guys are fanatics. I couldn't build up a Trekker and wheel it either so I suppose I understand.

Here is the new winch bumper and warn winch installed. I am thinking about modifying it to move it up and cover up the body lift gap. That 1" really sticks out to me.
