4x4jeffyota's 1986 Pick-up Build-Up Thread

Hello!!!! My name is Jeff and I bought this 1986 22r Pick-up in Jan. 2010. This truck is my first Toyota and my first 4x4. I bought it from a Dealership in Southeast Missouri for $2000 cash.

Theeennnn, my brother and I were at my uncles house playing with his welder and did this with some fog lights from Walmart for $20. I painted them flat black.

Here are a few pics of my current project I started today. I removed my flooring and seat. I plan on installing some seats from a Civic or something and spraying some Rhino Liner down.

As you can see, I have some rust to take care of.
I tried for almost an hour with a scrapper to scrape the thick rubber matt stuff with not much luck. So grabbed the Ol' soldering iron, hahaha.

And 1 and a half hours later....haha

As you can also see I need a new seat

Anybody have any better ways to getting that rubber matt stuff up. I also tried to use my wife's hair dryer but it took too long as well.

The plate you see in front of my gear shifter is there because the tranny I just installed is from an 85 and everything is located about 2 1/2 inched back. I also had to cut a small section out of my seat b/c while in 4hi the seat would push the shifter into N.

I'm trying to get my front sway bar off but the long bolts are stuck. I was wondering if it would be fine if I just used a sawzaw?

oops, I forgot about this, heres my new/used welder and brand new mig gun and assembly. I traded my $130.00 wal mart brand stick welder for a $400 Lincoln 115v Weld-Pak 100 Flux core welder. The original gun was broke when we traded. Thats why I got such a good deal.A cheap gun and assembly was gonna run about $135.00. So after I got home Monday I emailed Lincoln Electric and told them about my gun being broke and ask if there was anything they would do to help me. And they said normally there stuff is only on a 90 warranty but this once they can make and help me out and sent me a free gun and entire assembly for free. Which would have cost me $192.00 if I had bought it. And it's 2 days later and the pakage arrived!!! I coulnt wait to hook everything up to see if it worked. And it works great!!![IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

My uncle made this receiver hitch at work for me. The hook is from my push bars. I still have one more hook, any ideas on what to do with it?

My first bead with my new/used Lincoln Weld-Pak 100. And this is only my second time ever picking up a mig/flux core. I welded some 3/8 steel together and pounded very hard with a hammer and it didnt budge, crack or break. I am extremely happy with this welder.

You should be able to weld you're shock mounts and sliders just fine as long as you get good penetration ya know I think you will be fine as long as you don't try to weld half inch plate to you're truck

I've decided to remove my rear bumper b/c it keeps getting caught when I climb steep stuff.

And yesterday I was wanting to play with my welder and I decided to make stinger with my winch plate. I cut the light protecters from my grille gaurd and bent them out a little and welded them together. Not the prettiest stinger ever but its a start until I get some metal to fab up a bumper. I have 2 brackets made out of 1/4 steel with hole drilled in them. Im going weld them to the winch plate and hang D rings from them. Im gonna get them welded up sometime today.

well at least you got out there and played a little. you should look into raising you're rear bumper up instead of taking it off you know in-case a stump or something should sneak up on you. don't want to ruin the bed and end up with a lot of body work
