1988 Extra Cab SR5 Build

Hi everyone. My name is Nick. I recently purchased a 1988 SR5 5 speed extra cab from a older gentleman. This truck started life in New Mexico and ended up in Wisconsin. The truck has a good amount of miles (384,000) with a v6 engine that has (138000) The bed on my truck is in pretty bad shape unfortunately. And from what I can tell it is a hard part to source. I guess my first question is this bed measures between 6' and 7' im assuming this is a 6' bed? I have recently found a regular cab sr5 that has a really nice bed that I may purchased but I am not sure if it will fit mine? I am looking forward to building this back and having some fun with it! Thanks all.

It's hard to get a good view from those pictures, but it looks like a short bed.
Have you been under it, yet? Is the main drive line one solid piece, or is it in two sections, with a carrier bearing about a third, or maybe a bit further back, between the transmission and the rear differential?
Single section drive line, it's a short bed, two piece drive line, long bed.

From the pictures, it's a short bed. Have you downloaded a FSM PDF from here, yet? It has the complete set of frame measurements in it, and you should be able to figure things from there. The FSM's are stickied at the top of the Newbie forum, although I think there's one at the top of each year's forum.

Sorry it's not super helpful, but it's snowing/raining here right now, so I'm not going to go out and measure my pickup, which is a long bed. Sorry about that. I'm a lazy sod...

Nice looking truck. Post more pics of the bed. I had a 1988 pickup in college and it had some pretty good sized holes in the bed right on that seam. At the time I had future plans to buy a fiberglass bed...I traded in the truck so I never got to fixing it.

Thanks for the comments guys and info. I do indeed have a short bed. Since this post I did find another short bed and am fixing it. On that note, I did some research. I am trying to put a 4cylinder sr5 cluster in the truck. Currently has the v6 cluster but I would prefer the 4 cylinder style. I read on the forums that I need to adjust the potentiometer? Anyone have info on this? I tried searching the forum but I can’t find a good answer to doing this. For the record I do have a complete 4 cylinder sr5 truck that I can get any part off of. Thanks

The SR5 cluster looks the same for 4 cylinders and V6's. There is a difference in the calibration of the tachometer between the 4's and 6's. SR5 clusters in automatic transmission trucks had an ECT indicator in place of the volt meter. Turbo SR5 clusters had a light to indicate boost. There is also the turbo digital dash but that's a whole different thing.

The standard cab trucks came with a long or short bed. The Xtra cab trucks were all short beds.
