The first time I drove the truck into town after installing the 5.29 with the 37's, I got pulled over. I didn't have mud flaps, however he was more interesting in talking to me about my truck. ha ha. No ticket. I actually had the giant mudflap that I used from napa in the back of the truck. That day I had cleaned out my entire truck and located my registration and insurance card and put them in my glove box in case this happened. The truck was filled with tools and bits and pieces from working on the interior, so it is a good thing. He let me off without a ticket. I prioritized my mudflaps and a couple days later, I had these guys on. They are temporarily affixed so that they can be removed. I will have a better system built up for a quick clip style once I get more time.

I also had new DS's made for the truck as well, can't find the pics. I will have to get the front one done again due to long slip. I was under the impression that the guy at the shop was suppose to hook me up with one, but did not when I picked them up.

I have to take a break from the project to work on my DD/commuter.

I will try and get some pictures of the interior. It is not completed, but the dash is installed and some of the back panels. I am going to make some custom door panels and a couple rear panels as well. Custom LED lighting (will do tuts on that) and need to install the visors too.

As of now, I think this thread is up to date for the most part and is how the truck sits. Everything is working perfectly! Sorry I don't have any other pics of it out and about. I took it out a couple times on some more background and used the lockers and had some fun. They pretty much KICK ASS.

Future mod list (not necessarily in order):

Finish up the interior
Getting different seats that suit the 4runner better and aren't trashed
New back seat as well
Engine swap, 98% certain the 1UZ. Check the sig for a thread on this
Eventually dump the springs and link front and rear
optimize the ride height for COG
Stereo setup, completely stripped of all audio currently
Full floater rear axle
I have dirty thirty's for the front (need to install)
axle ball gusset kit
six shooters
trunion bearing eliminator
break upgrades (not 100% on all details)

My goal with the truck is to make it have creature comforts in the cab, have it be as street legal as possible for driving, yet have it kick ass off road. I don't drive it a ton on the streets, but if I want to take it camping or whatever else that it may need for transportation then it needs to be reliable and able.

So far, I think I'm doing a great job meeting those build specs. I might need to work on the creature comforts a little more to get that part up to par.

For anyone that thinks this was build overnight, you are wrong. I have probably had the truck for 3yrs. I don't work on it ALL the time, but will do so when I have extra time and get the desire too. I get a little burned out after a while and takes breaks in between projects.

Let me know if you have questions.

Hi there Live4soccer.Lovin the truck and the thread. The new tires look killer. U have done lots of cool mods to it.Wish i had the know how and tools to tear into the motor, trans and tcase like u. A ? for u, when u welded rear 1/4s what did u mean ? Did u weld the wheel well to side of body ? Also, didnt u just paint the interior parts, why did u get the interior parts from boneyard ? Just curious if it was color or what ? Trying to seal up a fully rotted out "85 Runner, runs good just need to keep the heat in. lol

Thanks for the compliments.

I meant that I was welding the rear quarter panels. I cut out the rust and then was able to bend up what was left and weld it so that it would seal up. A lot of it was rusted, so this was my only option (besides welding new ones in).

I did paint my old parts, but I would much rather have parts that are gray through and through. You don't have to worry about scratching them. I will always choose stock parts over painted parts and will likely replace what I can along the way.

Next up on the to do list is make more progress on the interior. That is basically stuff you can pick away at without having the truck be "down". Then I'll be looking for a donor car for my 1UZ swap. Definitely keep an eye on the thread, I have lots of great things planned for the truck and it WILL all happen, just not overnight. lol.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'd be happy to help or give input.

just got caught up on your build, awesome work! i like your front bumper a lot!
couple questions:
1: how is the high-steer working with the 37's? i've heard stories that it struggles with the bigger tires if you don't have hydro....but i've also heard it works awesome

2: were you able to repair cracks in your dashpad, or was it in that good of shape before?

Thanks for the compliment on the front bumper. I really like how it turned out as well.

1: It works great so far. I haven't had any issues driving it on the road or even some mild off road (required lockers in a couple offroad climbs in the snow). Also rallied through some deep snow offroad as well. The truck has been fully functional for about 800 miles, so I haven't had the chance to do a lot of rock crawling yet. I can't speak for that aspect.

2: I had a couple dashpads and picked the one in the best condition, naturally. It had a few small cracks, however I used some vinyl repair to close the cracks. It worked well in some places, but others it seems they opened back up. I think if I would have used more then it would have worked better, but under the pad is a foam and it absorbs a lot of it. It still turned out well and am happy with it. The paint is actually pretty strong and I would imagine it would only get stronger when more is applied. You can spray it on a shower curtain and after it has dried, tie a knot in it and it won't crack. I did see this on the paper after I sprayed, however it was a little more susceptible to scratches on the plastic. That was disappointing, but I'm hoping with time it only gets stronger as the summer sun bakes it on there. ha ha.

Thanks, that's what I'm going for. A nice clean 4runner. I'll use it, but don't want to trash it against rocks. I'm not afraid to get scratches on it though Already has some from going rallying on some really skinny trails. They are bushwackers. Expensive little guys. I'm not sure if I would go with them again though. They just aren't that durable. The holes where they are "screwed" on into the body are already cracked in almost all of them. They are definitely still very solid on there, but they shouldn't have done that. I would look for a fiberglass set of flares. I'm didn't look for them when getting these, unfortunately.

Hi again, was rereading thru your thread and came up with more questions. What size lift springs r u running that u got from WabFab ? R they the Tg 4", 56" long ? Do u have any tire rub with the big meats on there ? Maybe I missed the answers, sorry. Kinda a Noob so working thru stuff in da head. Oh and Coors is not my first choice unless its free. Lol. I'm a Pabst guy myself but also like the dark stuff. Anyway, looks killer and keep it up. Oh and I might have more ?'s if that's ok ?

It is the TG front 4" kit and the rear 5" kit. I opted to do the 1" more in the back because I have a 4runner and there is more weight in the back. I got the parts through Wabfab, which has been a HUGE help throughout the project. If you are ordering, I would recommend ordering them from him instead of directly through trail gear. You get the same prices, if not better, and great assistance. He usually has coupons out there. I have no issues with the tires rubbing in any way. I do have 1.5" spacers all around though. I will be upgrading to 2" in the front to help make the stance wider and also will be upgrading my rear axle to the later IFS rear axle (3" wider wms to wms).

Shoot away on the questions. I had tons when I was working on it.

A few pictures of the interior. It is not finished yet, but a work in progress. I haven't been able to work on the truck for a few months because I've been really busy with work and other things. I will get back to it over the summer.

Things planned that will be happening in the build:
Finish Interior
1UZFE Swap with 5speed and yota duals bolted up
Full Floater Rear Axle

They may not happen in that order, but I already have the rear axle waiting to be built and then I am looking for a 91-94 sc400 (lexus). If anyone can source one near spokane, wa please let me know. I've been looking on CL, but no luck. I am looking for the entire car with the motor running and in good condition (the engine, don't care much about the rest of the car).

Better picture of the headliner installed. Got the fabric from JoAnne Fabrics for about $15

The better map/dome light setup, working on a bright LED configuration for this. Will post up when I find the best option(s)

Sold the 22r and freshly rebuilt w56 last sunday, picked up the LS400 Friday, working on pulling the motor today for the 1UZ swap. It is a 91, so I have the early strong motor. The LS400 drives well and has plenty of power. I can always slap a small turbo or supercharger on the stock internals down the road too if I feel the need for more HP.

The motor runs SO smooth. It will be adapted with an R150 transmission. I'm working on acquiring the bellhousing now except KSracing (ebay) has just pulled the bellhousing that mates the two, so I'm hoping he gets it back up soon because that is the best option out there from what i've read. I will be going with other components for the flywheel, clutch, etc...

More details to come...

I almost have the motor out. Should be a few more hours of work and it'll be floating! I expect either wed or thurs to finish the pull. Then it will be time to freshen the motor up and get it ready to drop into the 4runner.

Here it is pulled. Took me about 11-14 hours to carefully pull the engine and tranny without destroying any wiring and unplugging it all.

The combo came out nicely with a load leveler, fans removed, radiator removed, ac condenser removed etc...

I have moved the swap over to the swap forum for a little better exposure. I will post major updates of the swap here. You can follow the more detailed thread here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f161.../#post52082931
