Live4soccer7's Build / WIP Thread - 84runner

First off I would like to say thank you to everyone on this forum! I have learned a ton and you have made it possible for me to gain the knowledge to do what is to come in this thread. This thread is a little different, as I have a lot of the project done. I will post up the day I got the truck and will work up until the current state it is in whenever the thread gets that far and then it will be live progress from then on, but here is quite a bit of catching up to do.

Secondly, a little background. I purchased my first toyota about 4 years ago, it was an extra cab 84 22r. The truck had some issues and I found a much better deal on one locally from an older couple. It was a single owner truck and in immaculate condition. I purchased this truck and sold the first one. The second truck was an 85 extra cab 22r. I picked this one up or about 500, the lady insisted on the price as she thought there was something wrong and she didn't know what. Long story short, it had a blown headgasket. I repaired it and sold the truck and broke even on the deal. I sold it because I was in search of a 4runner. I wanted a little passenger space. That is when this rig came along about 2yrs ago.

I would like to give a shout out to WabFab for all the information/help he has been and being my source for a lot of major parts.

First thing is first, cleaning:

ha ha ha.... Yes. I will be posting up the progress pics slowly as I don't really have much free time. I figured it was time to share the project and give back to the community with a little.

I tore the carpet/vinyl out of the truck as it was completely trashed and dirty as hell. The first project was rebuilding the front knuckles. There was a pretty good leak coming from the axle seal, so I went ahead and decided to just rebuild both sides since I was already in there. It was probably all original stuff anyways.

The truck has 270k on it.

Here is the next step that the project undertook:

I pulled the engine to put in a hybrid 20/22r engine. While I was at it I gave the engine bay a deep cleaning.

Here is the hybrid that I picked up for a good price. Would have rather built my own, but just stumbled across this thing on CL. This is it after I cleaned it up.

I figured that while I had the engine out that I would go ahead and paint the rig while I had full access to the engine bay. I would also fix whatever body damage and rust I could find as well.

Getting rid of the rusted out fenders.

Buttoning it back up after removing all the rust:

The metal under the fender was welded to the fender to close it off and then any small holes that were left were fiberglassed.

This is kind of random, but I pulled the front axle before the paint job and por15'd it. I did the same with the rear as well. Here is also a pic of the custom hackjob exhaust that I made up since the rig didn't have anything from the muffler back and it (exhaust) was coming into the cab.
