Hi people, I have been a bit busy over the last couple of days, I can tell you now; my carpentry skills suck. on a lighter note I was looking for something to put over the tow hitch hole and I come across this little number, I laughed so much I bought it.
Anyway back to the subject in hand, I started making up a consul for the bits and pieces I had to put into the car, but for some reason I didn't seem to get what I was looking for, so out it all came and I done it again in steel, boilermakers love this stuff, hehehehe. I made up the frame in steel and just cut out a couple of pieces of MDF and covered it all in carpet, and I am pleased with the results, I also stole the idea of the little fridge between the seats from a couple of other forum members. You know who you are, hehe I forgot, terrific idea anyway.
I have also installed a couple of gauges to tell me something is happening, the sad part for this moment the shift indicator and the ammeter are the odd ones out, I suppose we can't always have it all our way huh.
I also had to lower the snorkel,I bought the visor after I made the snorkel up, and the mounts for the snorkel had to go through the visor. The easiest way to fix it was to shorten the snorkel and re locate the mounts, I think the shorter snorkel looks a little better anyway. I then chucked up some roof bars, getting ready for a couple of lights on top.
Time to pack it all up again for a while, I will put something up when time is available.
Clive.

Not quite so crisp white, inside the borders of the lion is a holographic metal flake, unfortunately, it doesn't show very well in the pictures. It does look good in the daylight, I was just looking at something different.

Hi everyone,
I seem to have developed a bit of a worrying problem, but before I go ripping out the engine. I would like some of your ideas. When I first start up, I get a very loud knock coming from the motor for a couple of seconds, then rapidly fades away to nothing. It is all over in about 3 seconds, but it is the fact it is very noticeable, that worries me. It does sound like bearing knock from the con rod bearings, or big end knock as my father use to call it. I replaced my oil pump because my old one had a crack in the housing, my oil pump is about 3 months old now, and it is a high volume oil pump as well. Any ideas. I have a bad feeling that I am going to have to take the motor out and look a lot deeper. Any info about what I might find would be great as well.

Do a search on google about GM rod knock... Their v8s are NOTORIOUS for it... Most of the mechanics say it's not too big of a problem...
From what I gather, it's because the oil pump takes a split second to get oil to the top end and in that time you hear the knock...

The easiest way, that I have found, is to crawl under the truck with a piece of wood or a stick. Put the stick to the oil pan and then your ear to the stick. If it is a rod knock you will hear it louder and if you can't hear anything , no rod knock.

Hi everyone, things are still a little damp around here, but I did manage to start putting my spare wheel carrier on today, and I am not very motivated at the moment, so I didn't get much done, I need to take some of it to work and do some additional jobs there.

:wabbit:Well I finally got a chance to go out and finish my spare wheel carrier, and got it painted as well, just to give it that nice finished look about it.
I am pleased about the way it turned out anyway, and I never really needed the prop where I am, but I am sure others may have wished they had one.

:wabbit2: Hello everyone, I am still alive, just having a lot of rain for a while. I did complete my spare wheel carrier, and the spare and the antenna are all in place, along with the work light. I did forget about that number plate though.
I am pleased to say it is starting to look like a complete vehicle again. I still have a few little fiddly bits to deal with, but it is back on the road again, and that is the main thing. I should maybe say off road again, in the best way possible, no one to go out with yet, not playing in mud on my own.

Not really, I have 33's on there now, so I am happy with that. It gets me where I want to go, besides I would only be waisting a good spare if I changed sizes now, not much good having 35's on 4 rims and a 33 on the spare.

I did too lol. I know this thread is old. Im kinda wondering what ever happened to clive and were this rig is and what kind of shape it is in atm. I think this build is great. Its definitely not a typical US build. Its good to see something as well thought out. Clive seems to be very meticulous, and very theme oriented. Its not all about big tires lift. It fits form as well as function. I think this is something that a lot of common builds seem to miss. Its usually one or the other. I tip my hat to Clive and his ability to be self sufficient. Were some have specialty skills Clive has a jack of all trades ability. I really admire his rig and his ability to use what he has. Especially his ability to use his two hands. Beautiful work.
