Hello Cyberhorn... It was a test to see if the computer is really needed. It is!!! lol

Thanks Jason... Tearing one this far down does take some time to put back together. Sure there will be a few more steps I am going to get to go back and do. Got laugh at your mistakes when they dont do any damage and this was one of them.

We have some cold weather coming and I just had straight water in the block. I had to get it running today long enough to circulate the antifreeze. I installed the radiator, several hoses and got the windshield wiper motor in.

I ran the truck long enough to get the antifreeze in and it burnt off some of the paint, oil, and other things. First time the motor has ran long enough to get hot. Mostly for 30 seconds at a time. Then I ran out of gas. I did not have much in the tank and it will not circulate it thru the system as it is so low. Didnt want to make a trip to the gas station but was nice hearing it run for about 10 minutes. Now with no exhaust on I am deaf.

Toyotas like their ground wires. I tested the motor without bolting it to the body and it would not work. I seen a ground wire coming off of the motor so I ran a wire from the ground to the battery. Wiper motor now works and is bolted to the body.

I got the following ground wire upgrade off of RAD. I mounted the wire coming off of the battery ground to the headlight harness ground.

Glad to hear the motor ran good for you and you were able to get some antifreeze circulated through the cooling system. The cold weather is definately upon us, we got our first snow last night, only about an inch, but it's cold and made the reality set in that we have a long wait till spring!

Hello Cyberhorn... I would like to use welding wire but I got the heavy gauge battery wire and I only run a basic stereo and a plug and play trailer wire kit. The welding wire is alot better. We got a warmer day and spent most of it having to take care of other things around the house.

Hello Ed... I am just hoping this winter isnt as bad. Last year was long and this one is starting early. It was great to hear it run. This truck has been one issue after another. It is going alot slower then what I have thought it would but it will get there one day. I am ready for it to be on the road.

Hello Chris...I still need to go pick up my wood stove. Just been tied up on work, but as soon as I can get around to it, I want to get it in. Wood is so much warmer and better all the way around.

Been tied up with work and doing overtime. Then some cold weather hit and getting the shop warm takes some time. I had it warm but the tools were cold and that was when I called it quits for the day fairly recently.

Today was nice and I had to spend most of it working on the house, and getting things winterized around here. Still need to get the boat and camper ready for the winter. Sometime I miss the days when I was single in a one bedroom apartment with just one truck to take care of. All of the other toys that come along sure can keep you busy. Doing home repair is one of my least favorites. I can have difficulty driving a nail thru newpaper. lol Oh for got about the lawn mower, need to add that in the mix.

I did get the brake lines hooked up and fluid in the MC. Still need to have one of the boys to help me bleed the brakes. Getting the clutch MC in took a little longer then I expected, the pin that goes thru the pedal and master cylinder was larger then what was in the 85 pedal assembly so had to work making it fit until I get the correct one.

I did get to test my washer assembly. I took a newer model pump and had to wire it to check my switch at the steering wheel.

Here is my old washer pump.

I used a newer pump and it did not have the wire connector to it so I rigged it for now. The rubber seals that connect the pump to the bottle is still interchangeable. The 85-8? will usually be brittle. The newer ones will still work. Even the pumps will work if you have the connector to the pump and just splice your old pump wiring in. I will get another pump from a newer Toyota car or truck and do it better then this. Just showing what you can use.

I sometime do enjoy doing some wood working. Sure is nicer when you have the correct tools. Eventually I want to get the battery driven tools. Looks like you are making some progress on your stalls. One thing I have a hard time when working on old barns is the wood has been there forever and is hard as a rock. Around here, some people are starting to save the wood from old barns as it is dried out will not warp.

There is a house I know of that was built from re claimed wood and it looks great. Someday I would like to have a log cabin style house or wood of that sort and it looks great when done right. Weak batteries are a pain to deal with.

Really haven't been doing a whole lot with working overtime and the cool weather. I am working on the heat for the shop and should be able to have it up and running on my next days off.

I have 4 broken SR5 gauges and am trying to make 3 out of them. Another thing I am trying to come up with is setting the mileage correct on them. On the SR5 gauge with the hash marks on the face, the needle is on splines and they will break easily. I stopped pulling the needles off and resetting these type of gauges.

On the other style you can easily pull the needle off. I had a gauge with the broken needle and thought I would try and see if I could set the numbers with it and no luck I am still trying to come up with a way to do that.

Here is the SR5 gauge I suggest not pulling the needle off due to the splines. I am going to eventually see if I can find some gauges out of a Camry or something that you could use the needle off of but that will have to wait until the bone yards get warmer.

That took some time! But as always Terry, You are very meticulous with all the work you do and especially documenting everything. We all greatly appreciate the time it takes for you to put up detailed info for us to access!!!

Hi Terry, i was at Home Depot and finally got the chance to look for potential material to keep debris out of the cowl...
Three-foot long gutter screen is made of plastic so easy to cut, and of course, rust-proof and UV-resistant. AND PROUDLY MADE IN THE U.S. OF A., not frickin' China!

When I have the time, I'll get some, cut to shape slightly bigger than cowl openings, secure below the opening with UV-stabilized (usually black) tie-wraps.... Done! No need to buy/replace parts. (Sorry, Slacker - LOL! But lovely truck and good products, BTW)

Thanks Chris... I spend a lot of time looking for pictures and it is a quick reference for myself as well. I love my barrel stove. It is keeping me warm in the shop. I almost have it down to where I need to have the vents to keep the shop at a steady temperature. Let it get as cold as it did last year and I think I am going to be doing well. Last year it was to cold to work in the shop and this year should be different. One reason I have not been doing much work on the truck has been getting the shop ready for this winter.

Thanks Mark... When I came to Yotatech, I spent hours looking for information and try to make my threads a useful tool for others. I am always referring it for myself as well and am glad I have spent the time on it. I still benefit from it as well.

Thanks Ray.. I am going to check into that. I know there has to be something better out there and that is looking great. Thanks for posting that.

Hello Ed and Nervo19... Those will help out tremendously, I don't know if you have been into the cowl and the ventilation systems on your trucks but they do get filled with debris. That will work great.

Welcome to Yotatech scottrweeks.. Lots of good people and info on here for building trucks or just keeping them on the road.

I have taken some time off from the trucks getting the shop to where I can work on them in the cold. Last year I could not due to it freezing me out with no heat and no insulation. I have hourssss spent on getting insulation and a stove set up in my shop and we have been cold and rainy and I am having a great time out in the shop. I will be getting a weeks vacation in the first part of January and have plans to be out in the shop the whole week. Lots of things I want and need to do and figured I should get something done with a full week in there.

I did get to do some work to the 85. I am trying to get it moving under its own power to move it out of the way so I can start doing some work on the 86 Runner that I will be painting and doing some work on. Also I want to get the 85 out so I can paint the whole shop white for more lighting.

I had to take two tail light/fuel harnesses and make one. Toyota uses 3 different plugs to connect to ECU harness. I will eventually get the correct harness from the truck I have been getting parts from in the salvage yard but that is 98 miles away and I am going to have to lay on the ground to get to it. Something that can wait until it is warmer and dry to do. In the mean time this is going to work.

Toyota changes at least one wire on every harness every year it seems. On the tail light/fuel harness they changed just the red one. One harness has the red wire with black stripe and the other is red with a white stripe. All other wires were an exact match.

I got all of my lights working including front and rear blinkers. I need to install the tail lights and run the wiring along the frame to where it belongs. All lights work, horn is not working and will look into that later on. One big step to getting it legal to drive.

I got a valance from a friend. It is for the pickups. I eventually want to install a 4Runner valance but this will help make the front end look more complete in the mean time. Also got a fuel float gauge from him so I can get the bed mounted and the wiring installed and have this part of the project wrapped up completely.
