Hello cyberhorn...I think I know where two more sets of Ltrims are at if you need them. I will be a while before I get out to the salvage and see what he would take for them. He will ship but it would be cheaper if I pulled them. I will eventually fix and sell the red runner. Wish I would of found it before I did my 86 as this one has every option that Marks has plus rear heater. It was a nice one in its day. I have everything to make it a nice base model runner. The kiddos have to buy their own trucks, but if they want to build one I will fund it for them and make them do all of the work on it. He says he wants it and will do the work so we will see. I plan on taking him out to the power line trails next week and let him drive mine in 4 low up and down some hills and see if that will get the fire into him to get serious about it.
Hello Nervo19... He just had surgery a few days ago for a hernia in his belly and he was getting restless. He did a great job on getting it cleaned up inside. Washed it on the inside and has worked at it for 2 days. I was surprised at how well of a good job he did and he got most of the pieces where they belong. They are bolted down or anything but still he must have been paying attention to me when working on other projects. I was proud of him for what he has done to it.
The console, inclinometer and in there somewhere is a perfect dash pad. Those aren't mine, but I do know where a nice console like that is at. It is in a truck in the salvage that is gray, like your interior is if you are interested. PM me and I can send you the salvage that has it and he will mail it or next time I am there I will get a picture of it. It will be awhile before I could get it as I got to get his surgery wrapped up and I am on my 85, dang priorities. Grego does an outstanding job of refurbishing one if you can get him to do it. His work is fantastic. I bought one off of him for another guy and was impressed.
I am hoping of a smooth time with him in his teen age years. They are a coming and I know how I was. Probably some payback that I deserve, but he is a good kid. He helps me a lot with these trucks was impressed with he did with the red one.

Once you get past the ugly on my little crusher truck, it is a solid little truck. I am happier the more I dig into it. I sanded the inside of the bed and will hit it with a media blaster I got from Highlux. I think the inside will turn out nicely. The head board and tail gate have some damage that I may not get perfect, and there is some rust in front and behind the wheel wells but nothing that is that bad and one hole in the floor of the bed that I am going to have a friend put in a patch panel and it will be hidden with the interior side panels. Gave the bed a good washing inside and out as when I go to work underneath it at a later time, if there is a way of getting dirt in my eyes, I will find it. Also to help keep from getting dust in the paint when I get to paint it later. Still haven't decided on color yet.
A little damage in front of the wheel well and 3 rust blisters in the normal area.
One little ding and the lower part by the bumper on the passenger side of the truck. It has been painted in the past and I sanded a layer or so off and it is smoothing out really nice. Some deep scratches and several of them sanded out as well. I will have very little to do on this side. Sweettt!!!
The passenger side has the most rust on it. I had to lift the bed and give it a good cleaning and on the rear, from underneath, I will need to use some fiberglass to fix this hole.
Front is not as bad as it looks. I will be able to grind that little bit of rust out and fill it in.
Here you can see where PO did not remove bed and some paint is flaking off. It was in bad shape and far better then was but still not perfect, but I did a lot of hammer and dolly and got the header panel in lot better shape. Turned out better then I thought it would. Wheel wells are in such good shape that I will atleast do body work to give then a clean look and paint them when the time comes. Just a few dings in them.

Hello cyberhorn...It will be awhile before I get back out there but as soon as I do, I will check on those L trims for you and also see about the rear quarters. The last two times I have been out there I got rained on. One time I left and looked liked a drowned rat. lol but I got the parts that I really wanted so it was worth it.

I took the grinder, then a media blaster and some rust converter to the rust and hopefully I got it killed. I also put a fiberglass patch on the back of one area as it had a hole that went thru the bed from rust. This truck did not come with the rock guards in front of the wheel well and I can see from the underneath the truck that there was never any holes for the guards. I think it will add some color and also the paint will just get chipped again so that will save the paint from rocks getting thrown from the front tires.
Hope I got the rust killed and will keep an eye on it.
First batch of body filler for the year. I was reading on Bondos site, that if you use their products, that they spreaders are the color of their mix if you have it the mix ration right. Something I had never caught on to and wanted to pass that info on to others. The spreaders I use are yellow. I just get mine from the parts store.

Hey cyberhorn.. You usually have a bag of tricks. What can I do to get the bed floor cleaned up real good? This bed is in great shape and wont take long for me to get it ready for paint, but paint is going to have to hold off for awhile as I still need to get the cab ready. I think if I can pull off the right color and have the inside of the bed looking great, I can really make this truck stand out.
I am going to look in to having it media blasted and cost could keep that from happening. I really don't want to have to hand sand in between each rib by hand. The tailgate and head board are in the worst shape and with some hammer, dolly and a lot of grinding on the tail gate, it is smoothing out a lot better then I thought it was going to. I was just going to do a bed spray in it, but painted would give it a more original look.

mean green with a good scrub then if you wanted yyou could get a spray in bed liner let it dry an then apply paint over the bed liner would be added protection the paint over it keeps the sun from decaying the tar base of the liner it would work quite well on the outside where the truck didnt have rock guards paint the same shape as a rock guard with bed liner paint over it
they call it rock guard an sell it in smaller cans to make it 'different' from bad liner or undercoat its all the same stuff just different cans

Thanks Cyberhorn...If I can get all of the old chipped paint off of the bed floor, it wont look that bad. I have been looking up how to make a home made sandblaster. I will see about renting one as well. I would like to get the floor smoothed out.
Thanks Slacker.. I just got done checking on your 3.4 swap on the 2nd gen runner when I seen you posted. I will be glad the day that my shop and skills get to your level. You do some amazing work.

My tail gate is in great shape with exception of a little rust on the very back side of the tailgate. It will work unless I come across a nicer one. It is really solid other wise. The inside of the tail gate is banged up really well, but I have gotten a lot of it dents worked out that it wont look to bad for the inside. Got thru a grinding wheel and a lot of 80 grit sand paper.
Working on my interior bed panels. PO did a bad job of painting them black. Guess he was trying to get the black to pop with the white body. I did have to cut off a tab that they welded on.
I did a lot of hammering and dolling to get the panels smooth. Turned out better then I expected. One I was going to scrap but it turned out well enough to keep as a spare.
Was all excited to prime and sand and forgot that I let a nephew use my new gallon of primer. It isn't perfect but far better then it was. Hopefully I will be seeing him soon and can start on the front side. Just two small dings on the front that I need to do to it. I have the bed sitting outside and of course it rained before I could get primer on it so some of the filler will need to be removed from the bed.
I found an old can of primer and just to get an idea of how it is going to turn out, I gave it a quick once over. Still have some more to do to it but considering the condition it was in, it isn't bad. The very top picture shows some of the dents in it the squares.

well we have an old blaster terry its just a 50 gall drum on wheels the sand is fed in via a syponing action (bottom of the can to a hose the air is hooked up at the handle where it draws the sand out tossing it at the work

Hello Cyberhorn... I will look into that. I just need a simple sandblaster for very little sandblasting I need. Was thinking about what you said earlier and for what this truck will be used for, I think I will still use a bed coating on it as it is going to be a work truck. It will still be nice, but the bed needs to be used for work.
Thanks kornhuskerwizard... It will be a while and he will be doing all of the work. Hard to believe he is 12 already. They do grow quick.

A previous owner put some angle iron on the top of the head board and one on the inside of each of the bed. Not sure why they did that, but I do remeber in the late 80's and early 90's they took plywood and used out door carpet for a bed cover. I removed all of that. This truck will be as nice as any others as I have built, but they too had to haul gravel, greasy motors, and anything else I needed hauled. I am going to try to make it look good but it still is going to need bed liner to keep it looking descent. Paint is just going to get scratched up.
Cut the carriage bolts and chiseled 12 or more off as they were rusted. One a new cutting blade now after all of that.
Filled the holes from the bottom side with a piece of fiberglass and used body filler to level it out. The drivers side is nearly done. Just some scratches and a pinhole or two that I will fill using a razor blade as a spreader.
Some one welded a tab on one of the interior bed panels. Got that grinded off and think it will hide nicely with body filler and bed liner.
Had to remove the piece of metal that is supposed to protect the gas tank from getting mud on top of it. It is not the best protector but guess it is better then nothing. One reason during the summer, I always spend a day getting getting all of the mud build up off of the gas tanks. I have scrapped two tanks due to them rusting big holes in from the top. Removed guard to get a dent out of the inner fender.

I have a small area to touch up on the outside of the tailgate and a spot on one of the interior panels to do but until I block it out and get it ready for paint day, the tailgate and interior panels are done. Having to do what I can inside due to the rain we keep getting. I am ready for the dry season to start.

You probably don't need it any more but have you thought about getting a cheapo sandblaster? My compressor is not big enough for one but you might do well with a cheap Harbor Freight one. They have many different sizes but this one looks good for small projects. For $20 it doesn't have to last. And probably won't. They have big sandblasters from $50 on up. I've mail ordered plenty from them and it comes pretty fast.

Thanks Nervo19... I will see what HF has at their store and look on line. They should have something that will work. I think my compressor is a 20 gallon tank, eventually I would like a larger one but it does alright for what I do. One reason I do like electric tools over pneumatic. I still want to get my bed in the best shape as possible and when I go to paint my truck, I am pulling the body off and want to get the frame and axles as well.

It has been hot and muggy and when working on the trucks, my T shirts are soaking wet when done. I still prefer the hot weather over the cold, now if we can just get past the rain part. This winter I was sitting in the recliner a lot and my jeans started shrinking. Now with this warm weather and working out in the shop, my jeans are getting baggy. Not sure what is going on, must not make clothes like the use too.
On top of what I have been doing, been steadily doing an hour or so of work on the shop. Finally got one wall insulated and plywood on one side and getting ready to start on the other side as well. It is starting to make a difference working in there.
I have both sides of the truck bed done. Just will need to be a good block sanding before paint. I still have no idea what color I am going to paint it yet. I have the bed rails finished, and same with the wheel wells. Just need to get the bed floor and the head board is in bad shape. Not sure how well I will be able to get it. I will work on it some more in the near future.
I also got the bottom side of the bed clean and in great condition. I want to paint it or cover it with something just to give it that cleaner look while underneath it. Not sure if I want to do a bed spray on it as eventually it might crack and hold debris under there. Still debating that one and open to suggestions.
You can see the rain drops, I just got done in time. My little trailer has had several truck beds on it for painting and it has been several different colors over the years. I used it for hauling my 3 wheeler when I was riding all of the time and have had it since '87. One handy little trailer.
Both sides done, wheel wells, and top rails.
