LOL 85sr5excab, that actually makes 3 that likes the Burnt Orange. The wife likes it as well.It does help with the funds when she likes something so it is at the top of the list. Someone please shoot me if I ever get into luxury cars and for as long as I plan on having this truck, I wouldnt mind a luxury or sporty looking truck as I get older. Cyberhorn pmed me some pics and I will see if I can get them posted. A couple of the colors looked great.
Hello Cyberhorn..I have always had a problem with Image shack and posting pics from it. The Rootbeer and Champagne colors got my attention as well. With the right mixing and gloss, I think it would look sharp. I could get into some luxury looking colors as well as sporty. I am going to fight getting old to the best of my ability. If I have to putt around in a Caddy or something similar, they can have my license.lol

Hello 85sr5excab...I agree with you on the feeling of age. Mostly just got to stay active. Glad to hear your dad got into racing, some cant or dont find a source of relaxing until they are older. You are lucky as your dad will probably support you in your hobby now. I have always mechaniced on cars and trucks, but was always intimidated about tearing into one so deep and doing nearly everything to one. Something I wished I would of started doing earlier.
My dad doesnt understand my intrest. He would rather see me in newer cars. Been there, done that. That is just keeping up with the Joneses and is easier to do, just need to get on the payment plan. Joneses are in debt and have some stress going on. I do my projects as I can afford and then like to see what they turn out when done.
Try to find out what your talents are and do your best to enjoy them. I just turned 40 when I jumped into it. Now I am 46 and wonder how much further I would of been if I had started younger. Find that balance in life and enjoy it while younger and not waiting til the 40s like your dad and me. It has gotten funner with age.

I got the motor sitting in the truck. When I got inside the house, I could wring sweat out of my clothes or as if I just got them out of the washing machine. It is just hot and humid. I want to get the truck where I can move it around to paint another truck and to make it easier to work on the 85 as well. Once it is all together, it will be easier to just focus on the bodywork. The engine bay will get painted to match the body as well, so there will be a few step backwards, but will get done eventually.
Here it is going in. Always get nervous having a motor this high.
Motor in its new home. Always a big moment in a build seeing a new motor in, still along ways to go but is a milestone that is reached today.
Removing the Pilot Bearing. Filled with pieces of wet paper towel and drive it out with something the size of the bearing hole.
Here it is out. Can take up to 2 sheets of paper towels.
You can imagine what the exhaust manifold looked liked before. I had it cooking in Cyberhorns electrolisis tank idea. Cleaning made easy.

Hello Cyberhorn...They did come out great. I have a broken bolt that I need to have removed. I am going to send this one to the machine shop as the threads that hold the pipe to it are stripped and to make sure it is flush where it bolts to the head. I dont like using headers so want to keep a manifold on it.
Things I still need to do:
Turn Flywheel
Install tranny
Install Gastank
Install Injector Harness
Install Driveshaft
Alot of small things that need done but gives me a direction to move in.
It has just been to hot to work on trucks. If I could get a few descent days, I could get the 86 extra cab painted, get the 85 atleast moving under its own power. Once I get it up and running and go to paint it, I plan on just lifting the body and paint it seperate from the frame. We are getting alot of rain and not looking much better for next week either. Once I get some nice days, I am going to take a few days off just get something done.

Doesnt look like much but I spent alot of time chasing down missing bolts and brackets and a few other things. I did get the flywheel on and torqued down, got the tranny on the jack, clutch is in, just need to torqued the clutch to the flywheel. I have done some cleaning underneath the truck in the past. It just got to hot to go any further. Looking forward to getting the tranny in. Picture is crooked, I was burning up and wanted to get out of the shop and cool off and trying to avoid some glare.
Have to look up torque numbers for flywheel (11-15lbs). Getting all of the missing parts for a truck that was used as parts is time consuming. Luckily I do have a nice stash of parts, but it still slows me down.

Hello Cyberhorn...It is miserable. I spent an hour in the shop putting the tansmission in. My pants and shirt were as wet as if I had pulled them out of the washer. Atleast the tranny is in. I am going to try and start hooking up everything on the passenger side of the motor today until the heat or mugginess runs me out. I am having to take small steps but it is forward steps I guess.

I am installing may injector harness. I am using my 86 runner for comparison and may or may not be stuck. I always thought all of the fuel injected trucks have the Starter relay mounted on the inner fender. My harness is not cut coming out of the inner fender and I was unable to find where the Starter Relay hooked up to.
Appears from Black 1985 SR5 truck that mine may not have the relay mounted on the inner fender.
My 86 runners has the big round connector for the Starter Relay.
On a 85, the windshield wiper plug is the exact same connection. I just knew that the wires were for the wiper motor as they are blue and to small of a guage wire. I may need to remove the Starter Relay that I installed thinking I was adding something that was missing. I am going to ask some other 85 EFI guys if this is correct.
The top or right one is to the wiper motor.
The middle is the plug to the wiper motor.
The bottom is the Starter Relay i added. I may need to remove the relay.

Thanks 85sr5excab...The 85s dont have a Starter Relay on the passenger fender like the newer models do. Something I just learned today from the phots that are posted. Not sure how the starting circuit works now so that is going to be a learning experience.
Just notes for myself and others...
85s have round plugs for the wiper motor and no starter relay ( or atleast on the fender)
86s an up have a black square plug for the wiper motor and starter relays.

Piecing together a parts truck is time consuming. Also the PO just cut some hoses and such and that isnt making it any quicker. To get some of these hoses from Toyota would cost a fortune. I have checked the parts stores and they dont stock any of these. I do know where an 86 camper is with 50k miles on it. So I hit it for some of the parts I need. Should of gotten a few more while out there. Maybe next time.
Got the injectors in, EGR on, Plenum, most of the vaccum lines on passenger side, most or all of the smaller water hoses on, most of the electrical connections on the topside hooked up. Now I need to start on the bottom side, starter, tranny wires...Doesnt sound like much, but having to find nuts, bolts, and parts is taking alot of time. Luckily I do have most of what I need, just have to find where I put a few.
Hoses from the salvage. Will replace with newer ones at a later time, but these are in great conditon and will get it moving.
