Yellow82's 1982 4x4 Build

Hello,

I found this gem of a of a rig...I really wanted a 79-83 short bed 5sp with ps...clean rust free original truck....I looked on CL for about 3 months and found this truck. It was in San Diego...I called the owner and offered him a 100 bucks more than asking price if he would hold it for me until the next day and also pick me up at the SD airport - I bought a one way plane ticket at work right after the call for 200 bucks and the next day at 2pm I was on a plane to sunny San Diego...I was not looking for a project...I have done a 3 year frame off resto-mod to a 57 Bel-Air hard top in a small garage that I found as a shell in Tucson Az with ZERO Rust and a body a straight as a Arrow. I still have the car in a storage unit in AZ : ) It is sick as HELL

Anyway..I was not looking for any major work to do...and since I am from Arizona I don't really even know what rust is...sucks to be one of you fools living in cold ˟˟˟˟ty places where cars rust to ˟˟˟˟ but at least some of you don't have..liberals...expensive gas/food/housing/everything and ˟˟˟˟ING CA SMOG..which is the worst part about California for car enthusiasts.

Anyway this old dude picked me up and drove me an hour into the middle of now where South east San Diego deep into the hills and told pretty much the whole drive that the car was nice but needed a bit of work...this scared me....especially since I really had no choice but to buy the truck for 100+ asking price...I was thinking this might end really bad.

When we got to the place the truck looked amazing...there is some rust..which you will see where the bed wheel well tubs are welded..and from what I can tell nearly every truck has these...I also have some bubble near the gas filler...

One of my favorite parts about the truck is all the Chrome "chingadera" ˟˟˟˟ bolted to it...it has chrome lips over the windows...door handles...It got ˟˟˟˟ing chrome grab handles..gas trank filler door...side vents...chrome front and rear bumper...and a little aluminum lip under the front bumper.

Driving the truck straight back from Oceanside to the Oakland roughly getting 15-20 mpg...very rough math...the motor runs like a top...based on the rubber on the gas peddle brake and clutch. I believe the 152k miles to be original. The truck is 2nd owner - i am 3rd - 1 repaint in original yellow color..short bed..5sp p/s p/b and A/C (which does not work - sure a simple fix but not need in Bay Area)

I have no plans to rock crawl or do any serious off roading...my dream/plan would/is to put a camper shell on the back and drive down the baja of mexico...camping in the back. Wheeling down open beaches.

I think i got a concussion from driving the truck back from SD to Oakland...my teeth hurt for weeks...i felt confused and my back and neck ached...

First thing first...my plan is to put a full OME suspension lift on the truck...I have already ordered this from 4 Wheel Parts out of Oakland...NOTE NEVER GO HERE...these guys are the biggest bunch of rude @ssholes - terrible bastards to work with...I would have gone online but I wanted to make sure I got all the correct parts...it is going to take/has been taking over 3 weeks...I want my ˟˟˟˟...they warned me this but still...I want my ˟˟˟˟...It is probably going to be about 7 weeks total...˟˟˟˟TY

I almost cried when I notice the previous PO let some shop torch off the steering stabilizer tab to install this chingadera dual stabilizer unit....anyway I got a new stabilizer with a universal tab that I think I will have welded to the original spot. I also ordered a toyota Heavy Duty Tie Rod from Sky Manufacturing. Shout OuT to Kawa636 for your reply to my email with detailed friendly advice. I am sure I will ask for more in the future...AND YOUR TRUCK IS ˟˟˟˟ING SWEET!!!

The truck also has some bull˟˟˟˟ front shock hoops...must have been a 90s thing to have to have dual shocks! - which is way better than the 80s where they mounted 17 shocks to the thing!

Overall I am very happy with the purchase...I can't wait to drive the truck with all new suspension as it has NONE now...the front end does not even move up or down at all... the shocks are all leaking oil...the springs are as flat as a board.

I have some questions that I would love to see if any body could answer?
Feel free to burn me and make me look like a stupid Ass fool...i just want answers to my questions with out having to do any work..I know i am lazy Bitch ass mofo!!!!

1. This truck by no means is a factory package? - j/k if anything it is a So Cal Swap meet package.
2. Is my rear bumper original...it seems every original looking truck has a different bumper??
3. Was the roll bar in the back an original factory option? If so... does mine look like one?
4. What is the deal with the different steering wheels...I believe I have the lower end model...Which models do you all prefer out there? or What is considered to be the more popular model?
5. I included the vin and ran it on the internet..so i got the basics...I believe the picture is clear? Can anyone tell me more about it than my basic internet search. Is my truck a standard - SR5 - Deluxe??? I am guessing SR5?
6. What is this dial under neath the passenger dash that has a RPM marking on it. I am guessing for the heater but feel free to set me straight! I have twisted it an noticed no changes.
7. Do you all think that the Toyota pa-lack was where the aftermarket radio is now?? Or is this to hard to tell from the picture.
8.Do you think 4600 was a good deal or did I pay to much???
