Nice work! Quick question..How do you like the 2rz? I've heard the 3rz is the way to go but 2rz is definitely a big improvement over stock too.

I love the 2rz, it's a night and day difference compared to the 22r. The 2rz and 3rz are basically the same motors. 2rz comes in 2wd models and the 3rz comes in the 4wd models. 2rz makes around 140 hp and the 3rz makes around 150 hp. The other difference is that the 3rz has balancing shafts and 2rz doesn't.

I see. Wasn't sure how it does in 4x4s once swapped in, but sounds like it's a great engine overall.

I have a friend that has a 3rz in a third gen pickup and you can't tell the difference between the two motors. Either way if you swap out a 2rz or 3rz for the stock motor you will be really happy with it.

That's neat to hear. I'm totally going to swap a 3rz into my 4runner one day, I just need to find a cheap donor first! haha

Took the third member out of my rear axle earlier in the week only to find out that the gears are chipped. I have never taken it out and there weren't metal pieces in the axle so I'm thinking the guy I bought it from knew about it, cleaned it then put it back in. So ordered a new G2 ring and pinion. Also got the master install kit so it will have all new bearings as well.

Got the third member re built and the disc brake conversion put together. Got the axle all put together just have to finish painting it then put the rotors and calipers on. Here's a picture to get an idea of how they will look when they are done

Didn't know gears could still work when they're missing teeth!
Also any info on your rear disk setup? What calipers? And I'm guessing transfer case e-brake?

I would have never guessed that they were chipped, I have never had problems with it. Definitely didn't want to put it back together with them chipped though. The rear disk setup is from Trail Gear. I believe they are off of a Chevy. And yes it will be doing the transfer case brake. I have heard good things about them.

Got the front axle cleaned up and painted with the rust protective. Now time to top coat everything and start the process of putting the truck back together.

Looks like you go the Sky Off Road t-case brake - Just so you know, they aren't "perfect." I had to you a couple washers on the caliper bolts to space the caliper off of the rotor so it wouldn't drag. Not a big deal, but I figured that you should know so you can make the adjustment as you go and not after you have everything assembled every and go for a test drive...like I did.

BTW, nice work on everything so far!

I actually went with the All Pro Off road T-Case brake. A little different design but thanks for the heads up!

smart move going with All-Pro. My SORD t-case brake works great; HOWEVER, the way it is designed makes it a real PITA to install. It's really hard to get a wrench or ratchet on a couple of the bolts. The next time I have to take it off, I'm going to drill a couple access holes in the bracket so that I can get a socket with and extension on them a little easier. The two bolts that are the problem of the middle two in the picture below:

Got almost everything painted with the top coat just have to paint the frame. Here is a little sneak peak of the front axle. Just have to put the new rotors and calipers on.

So the original plan was to have the cab off already but the guy that will he painting it had me wait a little bit so that he only has this in his shop and he can focus all his time on it. Got the cab almost all the way stripped just have the engine bay left. The dash and wiring will be the only thing staying in the cab. Cab will be coming off this weekend so I will post pictures of it whenever I get over there to check it out. Other then that I will keep updating on other parts of the build.
