We saw a lot of cool old stuff on the way also.

a few weeks back I finally managed to get the later valve cover on. I couldn't get all the original studs out so I milled the two spots down that wouldn't come out to fit. Ah, it works. I like the newer valve cover gasket better though. Turns out that the valve cover wasn't the leak it was the oil fill cap seal. Worst part is we got it in a very nice gasket set from Rock auto last year. That set helped out with the new fuel pump also.

We could have done this when all the exhaust was out of the car but we got rid of the funky flow master type muffler on this thing. It was coming apart so we went with something more like stock but all the exhaust pipes are 2 inches and this is too. It still has a nice sound to it.

Testing the new muffler on road. It's basically the same sound but not so loud.

We added a little bit of flair to the Brown Hornet and I set up a warning buzzer for lights on. That turned out to be a bigger project than expected. It wasn't like the 4runner where I could tap in to the fuse panel. I had to go under the hood to the marker light wiring because everything under the dash was too much work to get to. I'm not limber enough for that jazz😅

We took the Brown Hornet out to the Mountain Laurel sanctuary for some RC action. The corrolla ran well, all the RC cars not so much. All three of them are broken now. We saw this wicked Nash Metropolitan gasser and he was digging the Brown Hornet also!

oh yeah I added a cable release for the trunk. The lock is having issues and the Taiwanese replacement locks are absolute garbage. We're planning on installing an electric solenoid soon.

The underside of the trunk looks like my refrigerator. How much for the Scout? Nah, nevermind.
Gnarly Nash!

More adventures with the Brown Hornet today. When arlindsay1992 was up this way he visited the New England Air Museum and that kind of reminded me that I haven't been in a while. I've got the next couple days off and the wife is back at work so my son and I figured we would go on a cruise the tge museum.

Great car. The dash bezel around the radio looks exactly like the one in early 80's Toyota pickups. Knowing Toyota it's probably the same part. I think someone was reproducing those for a while.

Several of my friends drove that generation of Corolla. I remember playing with $1200 cash my friend had on the way to pick one up newish used in about 1979. My dad bought a '73 red one new and I later got it as a backup to my menagerie of less reliable cars ('67 Cougar XR7 and '72 MG). I sold everything to finance my first house. IIRC the Corolla accelerator cable stuck one time, and I thought the car was going to explode! I got $800 for it, and he had paid $3500 ten years before. It was his commuter gas saver. This is just like it.

Like all these old cars I whish i knew how much they would go for in the future. Besides the northeast rust issues there used to be a local track that would do a four cylinder one hundred car enduro/ demo type thing. I bet a lot of them died there too. Speaking of future value , I know they're not going for this but these are the kinds of numbers I keep seeing.

Out and about with the Brown Hornet last weekend. We stopped by a friend's house, he was my son's shop teacher back in middle school and he's into all kinds of stuff.

then we stopped by this antique shop we pass a lot but wasn't open. We still wanted to see this trail across from it. It made a nice spot for a photo though.

Out and about in the Brown Hornet today. We went to practice some backing in to park at another location earlier. My son is testing this week finally for his actual license. We had to go though another driving school because the original school doesn't have a vehicle for you to use at the test. Honestly we should have gone though this other school to start. He would have had his license already. They gave him more helpful tips in 2 hours than he has gained from the last place in several hours.

then we stopped by my wife's work to join here for lunch.

I've never been in love with the floor patch that was done previously on the Rolla and the iner rockers needed some attention. I recycled some steel from the old roof of my Jeepster. It's thicker than original and had ribbing in it. It worked out great. In fact better than the medicine cabinet and galvanized piece that was put in .

All back together now that the licensed driver wants to drive .

also some before and after shots from day one to now.

just a little bit of Seam sealer, rust encapsulator and spray on bed liner. Also we shot 2 cans of fluid film in the rockers.

oh yeah I still need to modify the 4runner speed O cable length so it just taped on again. I was afraid of breaking it and he would have to wait to drive again so held off on my idea for the time being.
