Winter is coming Need advice on chains.
So on my 87 4Runner I run chains that have "v" bars, and I want/need some for my 2001 4Runner. I went to price some yesterday just because it seems the price goes up when the snow comes down. So I went to Discount Tire Co. because they rule, and the guy there called his vendor to see if they still made "v" bar chains he said they had some but because of the low clearance of my 2001 4Runner, he reccomends those wire "chains." I talked with the guy at discount and he really seemed to be concerned with my 4Runner being beaten up if the chain snaps and he tried to sell me the wire chains (which are way cheeper) so I know it's not about the sale, and that's 1 more reason Discount is #1 in my book. He did say with a lift there should be no problems. Maybe I sould just tell the wife it's time to lift the 4Runner. J/K college is more important right now.
So is anyone out there running chains in the snow, and do any of you have "v" bar style chains.
If you have never head of v bar chains they bite like a mofo, I bet you could get traction on bulletproof glass with these. Notice the link has an extra piece of metal running through the middle of each link shaped like a V

I have the v-bar chains for trail running and the cable chains for basic runs up for skiing etc if they have mandetory chain requirements. I have had a v-bar type come loose and tear the crap out of the inner fenderwell, fortunately is was my beater old '84. Traction is definitely better with real chains but some of the better quality cable 'chains' go on pretty dang quick and offer great traction....

I think I am going to get the v bar chains, I live in a very "earthy" place that doesn't use salt on the roads. They blade them and it makes for really nice skating rinks.
