Tires...Nitto Terra Grapplers or Yoko ATII
Ok, tire search is on, considering either the Nitto or Yoko's want a good all terrain tire this time around. I know steve has the yoko's and thinks there great and everyone loves the revo's which are a very similar tread pattern...so...who has the nitto's, doesn't SteveO? Does anyone else? Does anyone like them? They are very close in price just looking at the options that are out there. The only thing i notices is the 315/75/16 nitto is a load range D tire where the yoko's are a load range C.
Any input....

Discount tire direct has them both for around $160 a piece with free shipping, if you buy them from a discount tire location they charge like $210 per tire but include mounting, balancing, and lifetime rotation. I will most likely buy them on-line with the free shipping to avoid sales tax as well, plus that will let me purchase 5 and get them mounted and balanced for basically the same price as buying 4 at the store.
any help would be great.

I would consider the Toyo Open Country AT. I have a set in LT265/75R 16 Load Range C, and they are the best tire I've had on a truck to date.
Plus there is a $125.00 dollar rebate right now on a set of 4 tires over 33".

I have the Nitto's 265/75/16 'D' load range on my Tacoma. After 12k miles.... they are awesome. Low road noise for an AT tire, still look brand new. Work great in mud, snow, dirt when aired down properly. I got mine thru Discount tire too. I was going to order them direct, about $20/tire cheaper... but then its $16 per wheel to have them mounted. The store I went to decided to let me have them for exactly $16 more per tire, so the cost was the same and I didn't have to deal with receiving the tires myself. Talk to them, Discount is very pro-active about matching and beating prices if you ask.

I can only speak for the stores here in Las Vegas...
They will match the price for what you would pay to buy them online and have them mounted.
If you can find a place cheaper, they will probably match it, but Discount was the cheapest when I was looking for them to begin with. I didn't find another tire chain (Big O, Goodyear, etc) that even carried them...

I had mine for little over a year now and they still look new and ride the same as the day I got them, very happy with them. I got them for around 100-125 per tire I dont recall now since it was so long ago and got them from a local company. I say shop around some of the tire shops localy see if they can get them and work out a deal for you too.

They've been tested on both ice and standing freeway water @70 mph and passed with flying colors. I don't know about in snow but they are supposed to be a great all-around tire.
As far as the ice test - in my mud tires I went down the hill sliding and the truck with the Toyos didn't even lose traction. Grrrr

i think i am going to try getting the nittos and to get my local discount tire to price match the internet price plus give me the $100 off that you get for buying a wheel/tire combo. i am not sure if the internet store does the $100 off wheel/tire combo. however if i end up getting wheels and tires from the web-site they will deliver them mounted and balanced. i need to decide if i want to get the spare mounted on a matching wheel or just use one of my factory wheels. decisions, decisions.

I think it really depends on how much on-street driving you do. If you spend most of your time, say...80% or so, on the street, I would go with the Yoko tires. They have a load range of C, which are easier to balance, and will give you a smoother ride. However, if you spend more time off road, and (in my opinon) want a stronger tire, go with the Nitto tires. They are a load range of D, stiffer side wall, and a tab bit tougher to balance, pluse a slightly harsher ride on the road.
I have the Nitto tires, due to my rig not being a daily driver. Remember, your rig came with Passenger rated tires from the factory (At least my '99 Limited did). Going to D range tires means a stiffer ride. That said, I can tell you that the Nitto tires are tough tires that are quiet on the highway, and flex very nice in the rocks. I have cut several side walls on BFG tires, running 18 and 20PSI. My Nitto tires, when in the rocks, are run at 16PSI, and have done really well, no cut sidewalls. In Moab, I had some side wall rash, but they did very well. In Colorado, I bent the simulated bead lock, and picked up more side wall rash, no problem.....
Also, when I got these tires from Discount, I brought in the advertisment from Desert Rat off-road. I showed them the price of the Mickey Thompson wheels (160 each), and just let them stick me with the tire price, 180 each. Normally, they would charge 210 for the Mickey Thompson wheels, and when then price matched the wheels, I felt I was getting a pretty good deal. So, they supposedly have a price match guarentee, I would definitely try it out.

how much weight did your tires take to balance? the 285's i am running right now have 10 ply sidewalls, i am not sure what the standard is for load range D is but i doubt they can be as stiff as the tires i am running now.

I thought about the Terra Grapplers but since mines a DD I think I'll go with a set of the Yok A/Ts come spring,I had 'em on my '97 and they were a good street tire with decent off road performance.

It's a little early to gauge their life expectancy, I only have 10,000 miles on them, but there is no noticeable wear.
I previously had Michelin LTX M/S tires in the same size, and load range. I replaced those at 72,000 miles because the tread was getting a little thin for dealing with snow.
I have been very pleased with the Toyo's, they balanced with far less weight than the Michelins ever took, they are a tiny (emphasis on tiny) bit louder than the LTX M/S's, they have far better grip on all surfaces I've tried, and maybe most surprising, they ride noticeably better than the michelins did.
