Skinny Vs. Wide tires?
my dad says "33x10.50 are a lot better for off road then 33x12.50"
but i dissagree i think the 33x12.50 would work better

It depends A LOT on the particular conditions, but one thing is FOR SURE:
You need A LOT less lift to fit the skinnier tire. As in, you can fit them stock on your truck, where you will need 3 or 4" lift to really fit the 33x12.50.
Here's some good things to consider of how tires work differently offroad than on:

I would get 33x10.50. more ground clearance than you 31's, they weigh less, and require NO LIFT!!!!!! not only does this save you money, it keeps your center of gravity lower which makes it safer (IMO) in off camber situations. I read Peterson's 4 wheel and off road magazine, and one thing they preach is "lift with tires then suspension." They recently built a z71 chevy solid axle swap, that has 40 inch tires with only 7 inches of suspension lift. and the tires can fully tuck into the wheel wells during articulation. anyway, if you do it, i would get the 33x10.50. That's what i want to get one day.

for you, in terms of lift, i would level the truck, maybe crank the torsion bars a little, beat that pinch weld back and put on the 33x10.50's. it will look better too than having 33x12.50 on a 3-4" lift i tell you that. and hell they will fit for less money! hahaha

Ever wonder how smooth rain wheels grip the smooth track? Contact pressure.
Unless your crossing muskeg, the arctic, or the Sahara desert, a skinny tire really digs, claws and grips giving you more traction.
FWD Volkwagen van with 185s(?) snow tires on it can out climb my 4Runner (in 2wd) with 31x10.5R15 all terrains climbing a loose gravel road.
When I have money to regear again, its 33x10.5R15s for me.

I say...it depends on what u plan on doing. If you gonna drive a lot of snow, or mud...I would want the skinny... less of a path to "plow" with the tire, which allows it to dig better, if you gonna do a lot of rock crawlin, I would want the wider, more surface area to gain traction. Thats just what i have learned from my offroad experience...which is very limited....lol

I prefer skinny tires. I would have gone with 33's if I could have gotten them in a 10.50 width from TreadWright. Heck for that matter I would have gone with 35's if I could have gotten them in a 10.50.

Moved to the new "Tires & Wheels" section.
If you have a general question about tires or wheels that is not year-model specific please first search and then post if needed in this new section.
Thanks!
