Note
It is only related to ATs, not MTs.
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC said on Thursday it will replace 25,600 Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires imported into the United States from Japan after data suggested a small percentage could suffer belt detachment.
The Nashville, Tennessee, unit of Japan's Bridgestone Corp (news - web sites). said the Dueler A/T 693 tires size LT285/75R16 load range D were made from July 1, 1998, through July 31, 2002, and imported as replacement tires mainly for large light trucks sold mostly through independent dealers and affiliated stores.
The data suggested a small percentage of the tires may experience belt detachment, especially if they have been under-inflated for the load carried or have been carrying heavier than recommended loads, Bridgestone said.
Bridgestone Firestone Canada plans to replace about 1,400 of the tires sold through independent dealers in Canada.
Other Dueler tires, including those of the same size and type made after July 31, 2002, are not affected, it said.
U.S. consumers can receive free replacement tires through company-owned stores and Canadian consumers should call authorized Bridgestone retailers.

I'm picking up a used set of MT classic II's and those tires this weekend...might just have to swing by the bridgestone store and see if it's covered [] wonder if they'd let me go to a smaller size tire if they are going to replace it...hehe

Bridgestone/Firstone have recalled alot of tires. How does tirerack rate their tires, by amount of sales or safety record? Tread seperation is a serious issue and this is not the first time out for Bridgestone/Firestone. About a month ago I was in this position to make the decision, Revo or something else. When it come down to the wire, I went with the Michelin. They were a bit more money than the Revo's but I would rather get only 25,000 miles from a tire than buy ones that were made by a company that had "RECALL" in its middle name.

Great tires, I'll run right out and buy some.

Alright look... Bridgestone LLC is a great company, and i am not just saying that because i work for a subsidiary of them..... with any tires if you overload them or underinflate them there is a chance of failure..... you want to really know about what happened with the firestones and the ford explorers? the real story is that the explorers came out 15 years ago, when NO ONE knew what an suv really was... the problem was they wnated a carlike ride, not the ride based off a 1/2 ton ford ranger with TTB suspension.... ford decided to adjust tire pressure to 26 psi.... in a 4500 pound truck! you do the math and see if those load limits are acceptable... that coupled with the fact that the people that generally buy an suv, dont do their own maintenance and have probably never checked their own air pressures.....
my little toyota truck that weighs half what an explorer weighs still says to put more pressure in the tires...
