MTZ's vs. Destination MT's
Just bought a Black 99 4runner Highlander editon with E-Locker and I'm going to build it much like my last 3rd gen. Anyway I'm not sure if I wanted to do MTZ's again or try something different and get the Firestone Destination MT's. Let me know what you would get. Any other suggestions are welcome but I think I've pretty much narrowed it down to these two. Thanks!
Here's a pic of my last 3rd gen:

I've heard the complete opposite. I've heard nothing but great things about the destination mt's. I'd go with the firestones, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Everyone I know with them has gotten 40-50k miles out of them aswell.

Between those two choices I'd go with MTZ's again. Although the Destination M/Ts are great there's just something about the looks of MTZ's that makes them stand out, they also come snipped which IMO is good no matter where you live.
MTZ
Destination M/T (revisiting this tire reminds me of "old school")
This may or may not help your decision much but when I was tire hunting I narrowed it down to 5 choices, two being the ones your considering and three others being MT/R's, SST's, and Bighorn MT's. After spending hours upon hours researching every tire site and off road forum, I choose the Bighorn's.

I'll need a set of tires before winter hits around here. Current tires in the running for me are the MTZ's, Maxxis Bighorns, SSR's and Goodyear Duratracs. Because of the siping, it's probably going to come down to the MTZ's and the Duratracs. It's hard to beat the looks of the MTZ's and I've heard they perform well in most off road conditions. The Destination M/T's are a decent tire too, but their lack of siping rules them out for me.

i dunno if he was just trying to talk me into tires, but when i got my alignment at firestone, i got talking to the rep about the destination M/Ts and he told me a few things that i'd never heard before. he *claimed* that somewhere there is kevlar in the tire (i dunno about that one) and he said that they had a technician that put them on his dodge diesel and got 80k out of them before replacing them (with religious rotation). i have read that they are a great tire though. haven't heard too much about the mtz, but they look badass.

my mom had some on her Z71 work truck she used in our oil field and absolutely loved them. I myself have driven the truck numerous times and for a stock Z71 it was hard to stick in a cornfield no matterhow much rain wed had.. Only downside we ever complained about was how well they dug! in turn tearing up our lease roads.
Like stated from previous posts she got a little over 60k out of them without a problem.. scheduled rotation of course is the life of u tires much like an oil change for ur rig.. She just ordered a new set from this place in Pompano FL for like 160 a piece for 285/75/16's..

I currently have the Firestone MT's, and have been very happy with them. Got about 20K on them so far, still have about 12/32's left on the tread. They should last me at least another 20K.
However, for my next set of tires, I am leaning towards the MTZ's. Mainly due to the fact that they are siped. They look really good too. (but so do the Firestones). But now I am also starting to consider the new Goodyears with kevlar. Decisions-Decisions
Good luck!

Tires,
Destination MT is a good tire, very thick side walls and puncture protection. some loss of power but that is expected. the Firestones have worn great and on my light pickup they will last forever. I am running 33X12.5X15 size as winter tires and expect them to go many more seasons. as ATs I run Nitto terra grappler 285/75/16s and they are great for summer on the daily driver. Firestones are made of a harder rubber and do hum a little on my pickup though.
the MTs make me feel like I have tracks on .

Dude...if you don't want to go with the MTZ's why not go with the BFG KM2's?
They're based on the Krawler tread which is just plain awesome - they're also cheaper than the MTZ's.
I'm not a huge fan of the Firestone's...

KM2's are probably the loudest tire mentioned so far.. as long as it's all being through out there why not Toyo Open Country MT's? their downside is they're heavy, and they're expensive... but they sure run well on pavement and balance very nicely.

I'll be going with 35x12.50 KM2's on the 1st gen when I get it.
You decided yet Tony?

If you are looking to take the truck into some mud mtz clean out horribly for there price tag.Ive heard good things about the firestone tho.No one around here has them so I cant say forsure of there performance but I have seem first hand mtzs turn into slicks and slide off into a tree.

I've had two sets of MTZ's (285's and 265's) and both of mine wore extremely well for an M/T.
I've got over 20k on this set and they're still at 16/32nd.
I rotate them religiously at 5k and keep the tire pressure where it needs to be and they seem to do very well.
