MT Classic IIs

i want new wheels.

i decided on the Mickey Thompson Classic IIs, but now when its crunch time i cant decide if i should get them.

i want a wider stance, so i would get the 3 5/8" backspacing. (1" body lift on the way).

would those with these wheels, other wheels, friends who have these, or those who think they know everything, please chime in.

Here's what I can tell you:
1. I had them on my 99 taco with the wider back spacing.
2. I put on the trd flares and they still sprayed over the sides.
3. They are a pain to polish
4. The handling did improve.
5. Nice classic look.

Darren has them on his runner and they look really sharp. Although, he had custom wheel spacers made for the front so he could use the 4 9/19" backspacing. Maybe he'll chime in...

Edit: Another wheel that looks similar in style is the Pro Comp Xtreme...the 16 by 8 has 4" backspacing. These are on the 4wheelparts page for around $120 ea. Keiser has these.

What 44runner said, oh wait! They are mine!
But, you really do have a good taste in wheels, because one day I'm going to be getting those to replace my stockers for the ATs and keep the MTs on the Crawlers. But thats way down the road... Ever since I saw Keisur's rig I was sold. Good luck!

Wheels

RT,

I got some American Eagle 16"x8" rims for about $100/each. They look great and were cheap.

I already gave my input to Ryan.

I don't think any of the above responses are what he is looking for, though in fairness, a specific question wasn't asked. Perhaps he'll clarify.

I don't know a whole lot, actually I know nothing . I do know that the Classic IIs look great IMO. I ordered some from summit when I got the money along with a PA 3" BL. I ordered the 15x10 size slapped some 32x11.50 BFG A/T's on them and this is how it turned out.

Here is a pic of how much they go past the fenders (wouldn't be using montypics if i wasn't at school).

Personally I didn't worry about the backspacing and everything came out fine. I worry'd about it when I was about to buy them like you are but I finally said screw it and bought them.

You have a 11.5" tire on a 10" wheel? I'm not sure I understand that logic. Actually, I guess that would work fine on the street.

My 11" tires are on the 8" rims and obviously have more of the "balloon effect," and are a little more protected. Within one week of having mine installed, the rims got ate alive and are all chewed up now from the rocks. Had to break them in properly! If I had a proportionate wheel width compared to yours (9.5"), they would've been unusable by now.

Well, considering I don't play in the rocks I don't think I have much to worry about. My truck is on the road 95% of the time. If it was offroad more I would have gotten some mud terrain tires not all terrain. They've worked fine for me the times I've been offroad also.

I just got a set of MT Classic II rims also. Just put them on about 2 weeks ago. I really like them alot! I need some flares now since they come out so far. My handling has improved too. The rims are 15x8 with 31x10.50 tires. Sorry, no pics yet (Dad is out of town with the digi-cam).

I did have some rubbing isues on the edge of the valance on the passenger side. Not sure if that is becuase of the back spacing or not. I just banged the valance in a few times with a hammer and works great now.

Something for you to think about: The holes on the 15x8 are a bit smaller than the holes on the 15x10s. I noticed this when I parked next to a co-worker with 15x10 MTs on his truck. Personally, I like the larger holes more, so I was a bit bummed out (not much though). So, you may want to compare the 2 sizes closely before you buy.

I like mine alot! Hope to have pics of them and my good deal tires too!

Have fun all.

The ATS arms put you wider to begin with, what are doing? Building a lowrider ???

Keep the stock rims and tear them up. Spend your money on booze like normal college kids.

How about a locker or a winch?

You let me know next time your in Arizona, we need to take you 4Wheelin for the first time.

Your rideing with me and bring a pack of depends. I know a trail you will squirt on in Carefree.

As well you should because it looks stupid!

Wider to a point is better. I just don't understand why you would spend so much money doing it. I have already stratched at least 3 out of five rims and the "spare" is slightly bent so it wobbles (used to be on the truck, that is when the damage took place). Why pay a lot of money for rims you are just gonna trash? Rockcrawlers are cheap, and they look good. Real men run steelies...

This American Racing wheel still works fine and is still sreight.

all of mine look like this.

All kidding aside I really think the MT rims are for show/street vehicles. They have plastic center caps. Everyone out here with the black steel rims regrets buying them, difficult to balance, heavy and ugly.

Why don't you just take the gay ass flares off ???

RTdawgs I have ultra enforcer 16x8 with 4.0 backspaceing. I wanted something different rather than bullet hole wheels like every one has(not that they look bad). They sit out right to the edge of my flarewith 285s. I still wish they looked alittle wider. The limited flare make them look skiny. I am going to get a 2 inche body lift and then my next set of tires will be 305/70/16 so I can get a wider look. I know what you meen about the factory wheels mine looked the same way that is what made me buy wheels. I like the looks of the factory wheels if they just set out a little further and be a inche wider. I think the balck wheels look good on aa dark color truck but I think aluminum looks better on a silver truck.
