Interco tires
Does anybody have experience with the Super Swamper Radial TSL tires?
On road manners?
How long do they tend to last on the road?
Are they worth the money?

Tire
There was a big tire comparison write-up in one of the off-road mags this month, one that I get, but I can't remember which one. I know it wasn't Petersen's though. I'll look for it tonight when I get home.

On road, they are crap. Their tread is way too soft, and will probably wear out in 15-20K miles. I think most people (that actually use them for something other than looks) swap them out when they drive on the road.

i've heard the radial swampers are total garbage. if you're going for a super swamper, you might as well get your money's worth.
the radial tsls have been known to have weak sidewalls, and the tread seems smaller than on a standard tsl. beware.

why don't you try the Interco Trxus radials? I'm running them and so far they've been good to me. They are fairly heavy though. My 285 weighs more than my buddies 35x12.50 MT...

Steve, check out PBB for some info. I am pretty sure no one here has Swampers of the nasty kind.
Remember Grant from ORS and the red Taco in Buena Vista? He had the radials and they seemed to do all right, but were not aired down enough or did not flex well on Chinamen's.
I still think that the MT/R's or Krawlers would be a better bet. Lighter tire, easier to put on some road time, but you have a trailer. Sidewalls seem to be decent.

I have them on mine and they are loud. I got used to it within a few weeks though and barely notice them anymore.
I have had mine for 18k and they have a little less than 1/2 the tread left. I know a few other people with them and as long as your not taking turns fast and spinning them everywhere they will last at least 30k-40k. However, they do rip easy, the tread at least. I am missing a few lugs from my tread, but no big deal. On wet & icy roads they suck. Bad handling on icy and wet roads is ussually true with most MT's though. I have had BFG MT's and I would consider them to be slightly better on road, but the Swampers are by far better off. As far as radial v. regular TSL, that all depends on how much you drive it on the road. A 36-37" TSL is going to make you sway on the road and make you go thump.thump.thump....... for a while after parking it. but it will be better off-road. The TSL Radial is narrower, but will give you much more stability on-road.

While were on the topic I was considering getting SSR's the next time around ( in 6-12 months). They are supposed to be just as good off-road as the TSL's, but handle much better on wet & icy roads. The only downfall is that they cost a lot more. Has anybody had any experience with them?

OK, I was just sitting here thinking about this. My '99 4Runner is not a daily driver anymore, just too darn high, and I have an '87 4Runner to drive around town.
So;
1) should I spend the bucks on some good off-road tires that are so-so on the street but kick butt in the rocks?
2) Should I spend bucks on tires that are pretty good off-road and on-road, and will probably last longer?
3) Should I spend bucks on tires, such as Yokos, that have good on-road manners, and are OK on the rocks.
I do spend most of my time in the rocks, such as Las Cruces, Colorado, Farmington and Moab. Las Cruces has wicked rocks that are known for shreading tires, very sharp rocks.
