Firestone Destination MTs - first impressions (on-road only)

Well, I've had my 33/12.5-15 Destination MTs on now for a little over 2 weeks. I know there is a lot of interest and/or curiosity about these tires, so I wanted to pass on some first impressions. To this point, I've only used them on road and at a very muddy building site where my new house is being built - no true off-road use yet.

There were 2 very immediate differences from the 32/11.5-15 Duerler ATs I replaced. First, they are much louder, but not really loud. Very much what I expect from an MT. I can still talk at normal levels and be heard, and I don't have to turn the radio up any louder than before to hear it. Second, gas milage. These babies really hurt my gas milage. When I went from the stock 235s to the 32s, I only lost about 1-1.5 MPG. But with the 33" MTs, I lost 4-5 mpg - I'm now down around 14-15MPG city. Highway mileage stayed close, only lost about 1mpg there.

Anyways...
On-road peformance is very good, especially in the rain. We've had steady rain for the past 2 weeks or so, some of it very heavy. The bigger lugs and wider voids handle standing water much better than my old ATs - and I thought they were good. In the dry, they seem to do fine. I don't drive like Mario Andretti, but I don't drive like my grandmother either. I'm sure I could push them harder than I do, but I don't feel the need.

To this point, I'm very happy with the tires. Gas mileage is the only downfall so far.

Man, those Destinations looked HUGE for a 33"! They certainly filled up the wheel wells nicely....

I have the 265/75R16's and they are wearing like pencil erasers. My alignment has been checked and re-checked and is fine, the tires are wearing evenly, but the tread is just plain disappearing. After 7500 miles about 1/3 of the tread is gone. I'm on target to get about 21-22k miles out of them. I agree, the off-road performance is great, but I noticed that the noise increased as the tires wore, and they are just wearing too fast for my comfort. I won't be getting them again.

Thats odd. They are rated pretty highly for tread wear:

Yeah, I got them because of all the great reviews and great price. But personal experience is proving different.
