bigger tires on stock rims- Bad idea?
well, i have a 1998 toyota tacoma xtra cab 4x4 with a 2.5 inch lift, and it has finally come to get new tires. but i'm a college student who is strapped for cash so would it be a bad idea to put 33x10.5 15's on my stock 15x7 rims or should i stick with the 31x10.5 15's that i have?

as far as the rim is concerned 7" wide should handle the 10.5" tire with either the 31" or 33" height.
Don't know how much of a difference 33" over 31" will make if you don't regear since you are a later model with a V6. Surely someone will post up with experience.

well the truck has 4:10's so even though that's not the optimal gearing, it's a start. the only drawback. my tacoma has the 2.7 4 cylinder. even though it's a step above my 22re, it's not exactly a power house despite all my power adders

It may be best to stick with 31's till out of school and land a good job. I haven't found a cheap way to regear, but my rig had 33's with 4.10 on it when I bought it. I was driveable just nothing to brag about. Tough call.

33-10.5's will be fine on the stock rims. Weather you want 33's with out a re-gear is up to you, some would say 33's and 4.10's with no problem, others would say hell no! I say it's up to you.

X2 there. I run 10.50's on stock 7" wheels and have no issues. When I need a little more traction I just let some air out of them. You'd be surprised how much traction you get out of a 10.50 at 12lbs of air.

along time ago i had mickey thompson 33x14.50 on 15x8 stock jeep cj7rims but they were really soft compound ,they had like 25 or 30 pds of air . they wore out fast.but didn't seem 2 have any other issues .they were like a sand tire ,u could hear me coming from a block away!

i ran 10.5s on a my runners stock wheels no problem wore evenly, but now i run 10inch wide wheels and i love how it spreads out my tread on the trail.
In fact i have 2 15 inch aluminium 10inch wide wheels i will sell you for 25 a piece plus shipping if you want to do it right and go with wider wheels
