Baby gots new shoes- Dueler AT Revos (32s)
Guys,
Well, I finally bit the bullet and got the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos today at lunch. No pics yet, but definitely by this weekend. I got the 32s (265/75/16) instead of the stock 265/70/16s for two reasons:
Cost: the 32s were $122 vs $154 for the 31s (stock)
Availability: the stock size had to be special ordered and wouldn't be available until next Monday.
I bought it at Discount Tire Centers (a CA-based chain). Here's what I paid (rounded up):
Tires = $122 each
Tax = $40
Mounting/Balancing/Parts/Disposal = $52
4-wheel (thrust) alignment = $40
TOTAL = $621
I accepted this price b/c Tirerack (tires drop shipped to participating installer) would have been a little over $600. So new tires today was worth the $20 I wouldve saved.
One thing I learned was BARGAIN, BARGAIN, BARGAIN! Do not accept the quoted price. It's just that, a quote. I called about 7 places in my area, including 3 Discount Tire Centers. The funny thing was the 3 DTC's had totally different pricing. I bargained down the place where I bought mine to $621.
It's definitely nice to have new tires. My old stock ones lasted almost 65K. Its too early to say how good these tires are since I only drove 2 blocks back to my work. I'll give a preliminary update by this weekend and a more thorough one in about a month.
Looks-wise, I'm very happy. While it doesnt have that crazy-aggressive look like the MTRs and the BFG ATs do, these tires are not milk-toast like the stock Wrangler RT/S's. The extra 1" does fill up the wheel well better than the 31's so in that respect im happier too.
Pics to come this weekend as I'm also doing the sound dampening mod too (Bumpin' Yota-style).
Speaking of Bumpin, where is he? Haven't seen him around as of late.

No pics, no camera at work.
Edit: one more thing of interest...
It's been about 2-3 months since the No Cal pit crew (Tom, Steve & Dave) put in my 1" PP springs. Since then, the outside of the front tires were wearing more than the other parts of the tires. Here's the results:
Left front
Current = 0.11 degrees
Before = 0.79 degrees
Right Front
Current = 0.10 degrees
Before = 0.59 degrees
That makes sense b/c the left tire was a little more worn than the right one.

Ok guys, here's some pics. I just washed my baby and the white spots inside the tires are armour all ddroplets:
As you can see, they fill up the gap a little bit better. I noticed that there is a marginal decrease in acceleration as others have said. Its not terrible, but noticeable.
So far so good!

You Crazy Bob! You building Monster Truck! 32's, a lift, side bars. Man I better watch out
I doubt I'll build it up more than it is already in terms of lift and/or tires. I gotta maintain a "clean" look for business reasons. I love the 4runner for that: you can keep it looking relatively stock and still enjoy off-roading, unlike 90% of the SUV mall runners out there.
I think one day I'll get sliders. Maybe. I'm just waiting to win the Stubbs sliders.
As for the Type R panhard, might think about it but is it really necessary for PP 1"-ers?

Definatly a great looking truck Bob. I love the way she sits on the lift and 265/75's. You have a very similar set-up I am looking into for my runner. I am kinda on a budget now though since I just bought a new motocross bike, so I am looking for a set of coils for a good price. If you know anyone that has some, let me know.:chicken:

Your truck looks great climbing over the rock. I will be geating rims and tires soon. I would like to do exhaust and headers aswell. It is a little annoying when a Ford Escape has more horse power.:pat:
