1uz-fe into 93 pickup with R150f and IFS
Ok so here we go.
I bought a 93 pickup about 4 years ago from a friend. Its purpose was to be my DD for the winter. I was driving ( I still do) a Z32 as my summer car. The truck, while being realy dirty, was a bigger head turner against the 300zx. The pickup is way more practical to. So felt in love with it soon enough. Also, the truck is fully loaded apart from A/C, it have a 3 inch's body lift, 4inchs block at the back, cranked t-bars and sits on 35's Mickey T. Nice set-up for the price.
Time passed by and I wanted to do a swap into it. I've looked around for a complete supra. Turbo indeed. I was thinking about mudruns, being in 6 cyl class and spool everyone with a supra engine. 7m, 1jz, 2jz... Who knows. But i think the 1jz would have been my choice and probly the best bang for buck. I might be wrong tho.
Anyway. I work for my self. I run my own lilte business. I sold my 16ft cube van and bought a 6x10 enclosed trailer. The toy became the hauler. Crawling on 33'' Mickey T, hauling the loaded trailer with the 3.sl0w you can forget the 5th gear on the highway. Even with 4.56 gears. This is where I was considering a more powerfull engine swap.
For hauling, you need torque. I guess everyone knows that. Turboed supra engine sure does have the torque I need to haul my stuff. But weak points. I will need a intercooler, oil cooler witch will take more space. Also, I allready have a twinturbo car and i never had a V8.
So, Im going with a V8 and im keepin it Toyota. 1uz, oh yeah. Auto or 5spd? All my cars/truck are 5spd and auto will be great hauling stuff. I want to keep it 4wd tho. I guess time will figure this out.
Normaly, the special thanks are at the end. But before I start being interresting, I want to say thanks to some people.
First, thanks to Yotatech.com for sure. Thanks to the people who did this swap and shared it with us. Yota 3.0, RMA, Toyminator, highride, birdduck, toy4 and all the others. Thank you
Here's the interresting stuff.
I bought this 92 Sc400 for 900$ 276k kms on the clock.
The car needed body work and balljoints witch you have to buy complete control arms and they are 1000$ each. So the guy let it go.
I rented a car hauler
Dont get confused. This is my 93 pickup with a tacoma bed. mine was rooten and couldnt find one in a good shape. So i went with tacoma bed.
The hauler carring the victim
I tried to take pictures in a creek like Yota 3.0 did
But this is definetly not the same creek, the truck is realy dirty, one hid is missing... anyway lol
I wanted to repair the oil leak on the Z32 before starting the project. i removed the trans to replace the rear oil seal. The clucth became crap because of the oil. So i needed to buy a new one. More money. And thats a +/- 400hp engine that need a higher clamp load with puck disk. More money. I got tired of spending money into that car. Also, this in the middle of summer when the temp never got that high as i can remember. Got sick of the heat, car problems, etc so I went to the dealer and brought this home.
The new hauler. 07 Tacoma loaded with 4.0 and auto.
My confusion between 1uz auto or 5spd ended there. Im keeping the R150f.
The oil in the street is from the car. I know, its bad lol
By the end of august, I started to work on the SC400.
I took everything i needed and even more stuff to be sold later.
Some guys came and did me a nice driveway.
Added nice tails to the Tacoma
While i was still taking parts of the Sc, Some mail man came by and gave me a box
Its writen fabtech on it. I wonder what it is ?!?!
Rented the same hauler to ditch the SC. If I had room for it, I would have kept it.
I think the sc looks better in ''Mad Max'' mode
Farewell !!
Remember that box writen Fabtech?
Leveling kit for the Tacoma
Before
After
The mail man passed by again with this
BH from KsRacing in thailand. Got it of E-bay. A1turbo in NewZealand sale one to. But A1's communication was S**t so i chosed Ks. Plus the hole for the pivot fork is on the same side as the R150f (right) compare to A1turbo is on the left. Yota 3.0 dealed with that one. After i bought my BH from Ksracing, they never answered my questions, bearing kit was missing and communication ended to be Sh...Anyway. One or the other will be the same. Price to.
So I started to work on resealing the engine.
Got my starter rebuilted
It sure was working good but the starter location is a pain in the a..So i dont want to replace it soon.
Getting it back into one piece
Old valve seals lol
Ok. First speed bump. I have a small garage and space is hard to get. I was slidding the truck trans with case on the ground just to put it just under the front end of the truck. So that way, it will not be in my way and i will be able to work all around the truck. And on the great sliding momentum, Bamm. I hitted the hook.
I ended at the hospital to spend a great 9 hours and get 5 stiches. Yay.
Even my pinky finger couldnt get there
Oh yeah, its the index finger. Forget the 2 other ones, they were like that before
This bump a slowed me down for a while. Lite work i guess.
Painted the engine bay
Going down. Trust me, this is not the last one
Hired my dad to help me with engine mount
My old man welding for me
Modified the manifold to make it fit. We just cutted the flange and rewelded it.
Trans with the shinny bell housing
I was removing the sc oil switch to put the 3vz oil press sender and it broke in the braket. Damm
I removed the braket, drilled what was left of the oil switch, put the oil sender from the truck. Went well. Better than I tought.
I Have good friends that own a garage. I went into their office and printed both wiring diagram. That saved a lot of trouble
Fuel feed line
I had the flywheel machined so it would fit the crank.
It sure did bolted perfectly but the starter was far from being engaged
This is when i found out that you have to remove about 5/16 from the back of the flywheel. Damm
Fan braket from E-bay
The K&N from the pickup. I will modify it later
The Transmission harness
Everyting plug into the trans. the other en in the truck. The cutted wires goes to the cluster and some to other like the ADD, Fuel pump etc. I will work on that later.
Back to the flywheel
The results (Ignore the big can)
Now thats better
Freshly shaved
Engine and Trans in the Nest. All bolted
The Maf mod
Studs are too short...Damm
Oh, a white box...
Egr delete kit from Lextreme.com
My opinion on that is metal is too T____ and its over P_____ but its my contribution to the knowledge they share with the world.
I went to my Dad's palace. He's a sheet metal worker. Well, he was(retired). So he got a bunch of metal pieces all around is place. This is the trans cross member mod
A white Box
Its the radiator.
Whoa. I had lot of fun there
I think i spent more time in the paper work than in the garage working on this.
Exhaust stuff
2x 2-1/4 U-bends
2x 3'' U bends
1 Flowmaster muffler.
Missing in the pic is 10' of 2''-1/4 that i bought later.
I tried hard to find a used one but i ended buying new. Fan pulley
I traded the Cats with shop buddies for 2x 2''-1/4 flex pipe.
While in the shop, i expended the end of one U-bend till the cutted cats flange fits perfectly.
I stole my dad Mig welder and started the exhaust
More to come

I have a few questions. Could you link us to his Ebay page?
What flywheel did you use, the 3.0 V6? When you machined the mounting surface of the flywheel, did you measure for the clutch operation?

Thanks for the comments guys. I appreciate it
I hate posting ebay links cause in few months from now, it will be gone. But anyway
http://cgi.ebay.ca/1uz-1uzfe-toyota-...82461452914104
Ks website. http://www.ksracing.net/
Flywheel. I used the 3.0 with stock clutch also. I wanted one from the 3.4 but would have cost more money and a clutch. All this because the 3.0 uses a 9.25 clutch compare to 3.4 that uses a 10 inches clutch.
Clutch is working. I just added spacers behing the pivot bolt (only few washers)
Peace
Dave

So How much are you into the build as of now if you don't mind sharing ? 1UZFE swap interests me as I know a few local records has them, but I don't know how hard it would be to get one to Pass the Smog Ref inspection out here to get the Exception sticker.

Looking good man!!! .. what a difference a 3" lift makes , that engine is way down there.
can you take some clear pics of the under side where the engine sits , please.
im using that same 3.0 filter and bracket , customized it to fit also, works great.
McKenna if you use all the smog stuff and the matching auto to the 1uz , you wont have a problem , i passed ref here first time there . wasnt really hard at all , i was really worried about it long before i went there, all for nothing.
and Dav looks like youve had way to many accidents on that hand man , slow down brotha.
and the tacoma looks bad ass man .
good luck man ,subscribed . and your very welcome !

Specs can be found here.
http://www.v-eight.com/tech_forum/vi...hp?f=46&t=1541
After all those mods, you have to balance the flywheel. I've called like 15 machine shop till i found one who could do it.
For the smog thing, I have no idea cause we don't have this here in Québec, Canada. I guess im lucky cause both truck and Z32 have EGR deleted. The car is probly worst lol. You should see the cloud of black smoke opon WOT. Incredible.

Some updates and some pictures for RMA
Removed the big nipple from fran braket
Working on the radiator supports.
Looks Great but..
The fan is 1/16 away from the crank pulley. So sadly, it wont work
After few tries, the rad sit way lower than i expected and had to cut some truck to make it fit
The multi-joint radiator hoses...lol
Removing rad set up to soften edges and paint the brakets.
Ok, for RMA and others of course
This is how close the pan its from the front diff.
Thats about an inch.
It was closer than that before but i had to shim the engine a bit because of both exhaust flanges.
Installed the hood.
Closing....
Closed
Under the hood, fully closed, hand taking picture from grill hole.
Yay, it fits.
This will probly make me go faster
Made some clennup in the wring
And i just found that in my pictures thats about 3 years ago... Who need's a boat???
Hehe

Some updates...
I went to the driveshat shop to exchange some money for my shorten rear driveshaft.
They have changed everyting. New steel, new joints, painted and balanced. Its now in one piece.
Added some anti-freeze, pluged the electric fan on the DRL (day running light) and went for a test drive....
Went back in. I had no power. That was not normal. 4 cyl was not working properly. One exhaust is hot. Like, untouchable. The other one is mild. Can leave hand on it no problem. I Got new spark plugs and wires and they all fires. Well we did find out the problem. This is definetly a NooB thing. While puting the cams back in their place, i didnt read the book. I just guessed lol. Well, try to figure the problem in the picture.
This is the best pic.
....
found it?
The exhaust cam is 180 deg off. ** aligned with * is not good. Must be *with*. That was noob. Never saw the other ones so i figured that was the way to go.
Anyway. Went back on the road. Rolled for about an hour. No problems. This thing pull like hell
At first, we had a bit of over heating. went back to garage, added coolant, back on the road. Its cold. lol Removed fuse for the fan and got a bit higher but its still too cold. I will have to change the thermostat i guess. I have to adjust the tach to. If i can figure out how. Or plan ''B'' is to go with aftermarket.
So, you guys want to see a videos??
I will post some only if i get some request. So, let me know
Cheers!!

Some white stuff felt from this sky during the night. About 2 inches i guess. This is in the morning. Im happy to be almost done with the swap. Snow signs tell me that i would have to park our summer cars soon. The almost new Taco goes to the girlfriend and i get to drive the old one. Sad ...hehe maybe not.
Also, here's some video of me and my friend trying to adjust the tach. The first try was a bit overkill but i think we did prety good after all. Oh, sorry for the french speaking, thats what we do in Quebec. Hehe. To make sure of our adjustment, we needed to borow a aftermarket tach to get dead on. My friend that was with me today, well he had one laying in the back of is Yota. What a coincidence?!?!
Im happy with the tach results It might be off a tiny bit but hey, I didnt loose time/money for a 4cyl one and i still have the same milage on it. Thats someting I was picky about. Nothing that couldnt be tricked tho.
Thanks for the info Toyminator !!
Cheers!!
