Power Steering leak?
Ok everyone I have a 89 toyota PU 4x4 with a 3.0 5 speed with just about 160,000 miles on it, it has had no PS work done to it, it has the PPS (Progressive Power Steering). Which has the resivor on the passengers side of the vehicle and the pump on the driver's side below the air intake. It has been slowly leaking on me. When I look into the engine it looks as if both the pump and the resivor are leaking. Now I'm not sure where the leak is coming from since I have leaking valve cover gaskets which I'm replacing next week. I want to replace the leaking PS hoses or pump when I take the air intake out to replace the valve covers. Has anyone done any work like this or know of the best way to find out what is leaking so that I can kill two birds with one stone. Or should I just pull the pump rebuild it and replace the three hoses to the power steering? Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated. Thanks Blaine

hey blaine,
there's over 3 pages of info on the topic of power steering and power steering leaks if you search.
search "power steering leak" and start reading. you might be able to find it now vs waiting for someone to reply.

Probably needs new seals and o-rings in the pump. The dealer has seal kits avaliable. Here is one good write-up (not progressive though) http://members.cox.net/stacewilliams/ps-pump.htm
