Not to bash, but...
Anyone with a 22R may want to steer clear of holley remanufactured carbs, and any reman. carbs other than an official toyota one. I bought a holley reman. carb and the first one was defective, I had to chew an $80 loss from taking it to a mechanic for a tuneup. Then I took that one back and got another holley. That one was defective as well, or was it? I decided to call other shops more knowledgeable in japanese carbs. No shop wanted to touch it because they either couldn't tune the jap. carbs or the toyota specific shops said they couldn't touch an aftermarket carb, despite the toyota stamp on the side. So I learned a few lessons... If for some reason you get a new carb that runs good, keep your old one, don't take it in for a core charge/rebate. If you get a new one, steer clear of holley (even disregarding the fact that mine were defective, their customer service STUNK ). Well, I guess those are the only 2 that I can think of...

That's good to know. If my carb goes out I may try a Throttle Body Injection swap or just take the plunge and get a complete rebuilt 22RE. Fingers crossed every day that my carb dosen't take a crap on me...
I'm curious, what shops did you deal with?

The first and only one to actually take the truck in was Gasoline Alley, basically the only place my family goes for work. After that I called around to toyota stealers and then to Toy Doctor and Toyota/ Lexus only repair places. There was like 4 listed in the phone book that I found.

While I've never gone through a Yota carb, I've rebuild untold numbers of Qjets and a few AVS's. I can almost gaurantee that rebuilding your original carb is the way to go, rather than trusting a huge company to 'perfectly' tune your carb. They poop those things out at an alarming rate, with zero fine tuning.
Learn first how to rebuild your carb, then learn what each circuit does, and how to tune them to your liking. don't throw anything away, every part has a job and is needed!
Good luck!
