knock in my 3vzfe...oh what could it be?

just got my lil yota about 2 months ago...it is a 1993 with about 125,000 on the clock. there is a tap in the motor that i can hear in the cab. it goes with the rpm's, hence more gas=faster the tap. when i lift the hood it sounds like it is comming from the passenger side if the engine. it isn't exhaust it sounds more mechanical....what is it(i just came from owning a 1997 jetta, excuse all of the poasts and questions...)

actually you have a 3vze unless you are driving a camry....lol Difference being are the heads, the 3vzfe has 24 valve the 3vze has 12....

If you have an engine knock then that's not good. The valves on these engines are kinda noisy too so might wanna check valve lash. You could also be hearing the injectors too - they are amazingly loud from my understanding.

If it's like a clicking/ticking sound that's probably valves or injectors, mines a 93 with about 140,000 and it has always made a noise like that. But if it's really a knocking then that could be more serious, rod bearing or something.

Try to determine where the noise is coming from, a piece of rubber hose makes a good stethoscope. Stick on end in you ear and move the other end around to where you think the noise is coming from.
Just keep it away from any moving parts

A common problem associated with ticking in rigs powered by the 3vze comes from the steering shaft seal on the firewall (inside). When that thing gives out and falls apart it leaves a hole directly into the engine compartment, letting all that valve/injector noise into the cab. So, go give it a look.

I replaced mine and now all is quiet. It's just valve tap.

Unfortunately, you'll have to deal with the dealership for that one. Mine was about 10 bucks. The sound you hear coming from your fuel rail is normal. Replace the steering shaft seal and the difference will make your day.

Edit: When you install the seal, don't forget to smear grease all over the inside of it otherwise the squeaking will make you feel and look like a real ass.
