excellent idea for trans installation..
hey all.
my dad and i (mostly my dad) devised a killer way to install a tranny with out to much muscle. this is of course providing you dont have a tranny jack or something. well what we did was took our breaker bar (4' long 1.5" diad.) and laid it across the center console over the hole for the shifter sticks. we used 2 ropes (you could probably get away with using only 1). first we tied one end of the rope to the breaker bar using a double fishermans knot, then looped the rope around the underside of the transmission and looped it back around the breaker bar using a clove hitch (a friction knot that is easy to adjust but wont come undone when weighted). then we did the same for the transfer case since that is the way the tranny wanted to turn. both ropes were around the rear of the tranny as the bell housing is pretty light. so one person controls the ropes and the other one (the one that gets the more beers after) lifts the bell housing from underneath and guides the tranny in to place. when it is almost in but the splines dont line up, just support the ass end with a jack and turn the crankshaft pulley using the bolt until it does.
any other comments or easier ideas?
