The first thing you should do is shoot that POS. I just redid my heads on my 3.0 four months ago, and haven't been able to find a coolant leak since. Well, this morning, it started dumping coolant on the way to work & almost overheated. I'm about through with this f'n truck, user error or not.
:edit: PS. I think I may be starting to live up to my motto!

Toyota makes a 1KZT turbo-diesel with mechanical injection. I'm wondering if you could drop in a new engine and tranny for about the same as a good overhaul.
On the other hand, if I was to rebuild my 3.0 (and I don't think I will), I'd get a set of those larger valves from "enginebuilder" on Ebay, port, polish, put a set of headers on it and button it up. I'd only bore out my block if there was scoring or over 150K miles and then only .020 inch. Keep the same cams, cause they really are good truck cams...Torque comes on low.
Then break it in easy and keep driving her.
