3.4 Tacoma Stalling while in neutral....help!
Pulled up to a stop light last night and took the truck out of gear while it was still moving forward....braked and then just let it drift backwards since there were no cars behing me and I was on a hill.
Well as it was drifting backwards the idle dropped, sputtered and then the engine stalled. Definetly was not in gear. The clutch was all the way out.
Truck started up fine after the stall; so i drove it into a parking lot 2 minutes later and once again put it in Neutral to cost into the parking spot.....well, it stalled again - idle dropped and stalled...once again started fine after that and seems OK now.
This never has happened before.
Anyone have an idea of what might have gone wrong there?

Few things...
Clean the Throttle body
Clean the Idle Air Control valve
Clean MAF sensor (for good measure)
Check output of the TPS
Change the fuel filter (for good measure)
Check the air filter (you can just take it out temporarily to check)
Plugs (change them if you haven't recently....OEMs only!)
Check wires for resistance
I assume you don't have any CELs.

so that leaves the others.....idle is normally fairly smooth and right at 700 rpm while stopped.
seems like this thread: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...+Control+valve
discusses similair, though not the same problems I am having; that sounds like alot of work and testing and gauges etc!
Anyways, I know this is simple stuff; but are there any writeups out there on all the tests listed above (IACV, TPS, Reisitance checking),
you know with pretty pictures and stuff for a stupid mechanical noob?

Allright, well I havent checked anything yet; however - I have been driving the truck the last couple days and it is running fine; and the idle is perfect - right around 650-700....so basically
If something were wrong, wouldnt there be a recurring problem?
Could the two stalls while in Neutral just have been a freak thing?
