Unhappy with my 22re
I just recently bought a 1993 regular cab short bed pickup for $500. It has the 22re motor in it that I know is reliable but gutless when it come to power. I will be doing a SAS on it pretty soon and run 36s or 37s. But would mainly be out mudding and rock crawling. I would have liked to keep my 22re but the price for upgrades are rediculous! and I still will be lucky to even see 175- 200 hp for lots of money. I was looking at the 4.3 vortech, but I want to remain with the toyota motors. Do you all have any suggestions on what you did to fix this dilema. By the way I don't want to spend lots of $$$$$.

the only option you have is a motor swap. if you want to stay toyota then you will want the 3.4 5vze. it has allot of how to's and threads on this site. other then that your looking at a 4.3 swap....... all of them cost allot of money, the cheapest I have seen with the 3.4 is around $2k.. and that is really cheap. Im not sure on how much you will spend on a 4.3 swap though. I would guess a little less then the 3.4...

the easiest swap i know of, going from 22re. The 7mge from a supra almost drops in depending on what you choose to do with the motor mounts.
