new 4runner, getting swapped. 3.4 or 5.0?
i picked up a 1990 4runner with the 3.0 and 5 speed manual trans yesterday for $500. the engine is mostly located in the back of the truck due to a blown head gasket and the old owner not wanting to mess with it anymore. i know i do not want the 3.0 back in the truck but i have a couple of options when it comes to donor vehicles.
option 1 - complete 99 4 runner that was a rollover. 90K on everything and is complete with full engine, wiring, radiator and auto trans. frame and axles are good but interior is missing.
cost for the truck is $1300
option 2 - 1996 ford explorer with a 5.0 and auto transmission. truck has 200K but runs good. it is a complete vehicle and i could just scrap it when i take all the parts i need off it. i would most likely run the auto trans and adapt to an extra 4cyl case i have from my 89 pickup.
cost for truck $600
tran adapter to stock 4 cyl case $700
this is where i need everyones opinions. the 5.0 would be fun to have but is it worth the pain to swap over the 3.4?
will i need a suspension lift to clear the 5.0 oil pan? (i know i need a body lift to clear the bellhousing)
will the 3.4 bolt to my stock 5 speed trans in the 90 4runner?
i have read every 5.0 swap thread on here so please dont tell me to search. i know my way around a vehicle very well. not concerned about electrical very much. the fab work will be my worst area.
thanks for the help.

Be careful buying a motor that has been rolled over. If it was ran for any amount of time it could be pooched. I've driven but never owned a 3.4. Nice motors. I had a 90 mustang lx with a 5.0. TONS of power. But maybe too much for stock toy axle/ifs.
