Sooooo. I have a 90 Toyota single cab that had a 22re. I got a 1jzgte. I used a Akina bell housing with the mk3 jz swap mounts with 22re bushings. Fits perfect. Finger gap between hood and valve cover. Didn’t have to bang on the firewall. Went in smooth until I tried pushing it into another spot and noticed the center link was rubbing the oil pan.
I noticed that the 2wd idle arm drops down a bit. So I ordered it not noticing there isn’t a tie rod on the end of the idler arm.
So I’m wondering is there anyway to get the hole on the center link to connect with the hole on the 2wd idler arm without it binding? I’ll try to post pictures.
If not. Is there a way to lower the whole linkage? Or maybe use the whole 2wd set up? I looked into an oil pan but those are crazy expensive. The only other option is running a rack. Besides the fact I just spent hella on the power steering box, I’d also run into steering column routing clearance issues. Not to mention I’d need a bracket. The 2wd conversion out there doesnt work for 4wd. I’d like to keep it strong. So I also plan on drilling out tie rod holes to except 5/8 hiems.
I refuse to put a body lift on it if that’s what your thinking.
Stock height on 33x12.5x15 with minimal rubbing. I added a 1/4 inch to the off set of the rims. Only rubs when fully flexed or diving into a driveway. Center link rubbing the oil pan. Had to use the front sump for clearance of the diff. Black is the 2wd. It would be nice to figure out how to get the 2wd to mount to the center link and still rotate. I had to cut the radiator support. But I’m going to bolt it back on just in case I have to pull the motor again. And I want to use the factory hood latch. Just say no to hood pins. Intercooler fit nicely. 1/3 is blocked by the bumper but I don’t care looks stock and can’t tell its there.
FYI, any change you make in the location of that center link will change the steering geometry, likely inducing bump-steer. I wouldn't mess with it a bit. Looks like a little cut and weld out of the back edge of that lower oil pan would remedy the problem very nicely.
