Help me with my weekend drag racing daily
I have a 1986 Toyota pickup 2wd, at the moment it’s got the old 22r that I was planning on putting a big cam in and upgrading a bit, but I’ve also been thinking about rotary swapping it.
I’d like to drag race it as well as drive it as my only car, and I’m starting to think that the 22r isn’t going to be as fun or as fast as I was hoping. Does anyone know if I can squeeze some more power out of the 22r so I could potentially gap someone or put down a ok time at the drag strip?
The swap I was most interested in is a rotary swap, I’m thinking a cab’d 13b and I was wondering if anybody has any idea what I’d need to do this, and does anyone have any experience with rotary’s or this swap specifically? pls help, thx

With the amout of money youll need to put in a 22r to get any power your better off swapping something that already makes way better power like a 3rz or a 5vze.
No idea on the rotary.

Anything is possible with enough time, money and knowledge. It will take a lot of all 3 to get power out of a 22R.
Rotaries are pretty compact. So probably completely doable. Just a matter of mounting it up, wiring it and plumbing it (will all have to be custom).
In fact, just about any engine is doable. Being RWD simplifies it, as you can use just about any RWD transmission. It gets uglier when you try to keep it 4WD. Wide engines, like Subaru engines, won't fit between the frame rails, but just about anything else. Straight 6s, 4s, V6s, V8s have all been done.
2RZ/3RZ will be the easiest physical fit, and there are more than a few turbo'd 3RZs making big power (I think Nugget Garage is making 4 digits on his).
