Diesel in my daily driver

I have been driving her on a daily basis for about 4 months and she is running great. I just put the first tank of biodiesel in her and she seems to love it. It is so nice to finally have it on the road after two years.

I did it myself. That is why it took two years.

Here are a few more pictures.
First picture shows the mess of wire I was sorting through to make the engine management work right.
Next is the dump pipe I made out of 3" stainless tube.
Last one is the first trip out. at Detroit lake Oregon on some powerline roads

First picture here is the triple transfer case shifter I fabricated for my Marlin dual ultimate T-cases.

Next picture is the front clip/half cut that my motor arrived as.

That's a clean swap. I like it. What's the fuel mileage on biodiesel like? I think eventually I'll do a diesel swap, but we'll see. Nice to see that two years pay off!

Not yet sure if my mileage will be any better with bio. I doubt it. With petro diesel I am getting about 22-23 MPG. It will be better with taller gears and tires.

It was just curiosity. I've never thought to ask anybody running BD if their mileage differed from fossil fuel.

I should be able to get around 30 with the right wheel/tire combo.

Where did you score a 1KZ-TE if you don't mind me asking? Was it a complete half cut?

Thanks. I made a template and shipped to my mom. She sewed it up and shipped it back to me. It works pretty good. But needs a little more movement.

I picked it up from a local to me engine importer in Lynnwood WA called foreign engines. They latter told me that they got it from Import Performance in Bend OR. Import Performance specializes in 1KZ-te swaps. I have purchased some parts from them and have visited there shop in person. They do very clean work and are very nice to deal with.

So have you changed the tires and gearing?

How's the butt dyno, compared to the 22re?

Can you give us an idea of what your cruising speed and RPM is when you are on the highway?

I'd love to swap a 1KD into my rig, but it is so darn expensive. I am leaning toward swapping a 1UZ in since its so cheap and better mileage then i currently get with the 3VZ. Yet, I really want a diesel, and the 1KZ is the next best thing to the 1KD.

Very nice work. I believe the Top Gear hilux ran a 2LT...

The top gear hilux was the 2L-T. I have changed the gearing but not the tires yet. It has so much more torque than the 22-re. 2UZ would be a nice swap for the reasons you mentioned, but you'll always be wishing you had a diesel.

No difference in mileage between Dino-diesel and Bio-diesel. It may be in my head, but it seams to run smoother and quieter on Bio.
