89 22re out and in with 92 v6?

So i finally found a truck to replace my 92 with the rotted frame. The 92 i got is the 22re, but with a nasty nasty knock and new clutch and mint 5spd. i have the 92 with the v6 that ran strong but clutch is gone. I have tried searching in here but idk if my keywords suck, or if there aren't any threads with results and list of things i will need. so if you guys can help me out with this it would be great! i have both whole trucks, so i have access to anything i need from both. will i need to swap ecu's? harnesses? and if im putting the v6 in place of the I4 will i fail smog testing? thanks for the help in advance guys!

i'd swap over a 2.7L 4 banger 3rz, the 3.0 isn't worth the work.

but i dont have the 2.7l thats the whole thing. unless i can fix this terrible knock the v6 is my only other option. but i think the damage is already done to the 22re, although its still running, not well... but running.

Everyone's going to tell you to swap in a 3.4, but if you have to 3.0, and the time/tools to do it, I'd say go for it.

well im pressed for time kinda, living in New England i want to just get a working motor in the 89 before winter comes. Just want it to run to get me back and forth to work. Come spring, im going to go all out on this truck. looking into a supra motor possibly, or the 3.4 from a flipped taco. But for now, i need to get this 3.0 v6 into a 22re. are the trannys the same? google aint helping to much here, and having a hard time finding it on pirate4x4 and here, cause everyone wants the 3.4 or the 4.3. Just need to get this done to get it running. Then ill go big later.

I'd say to be safe, swap the V6 5speed in there, and get a new clutch. If you want, you could sell the other tranny. I think they're the same, but I'm not sure.

Transmissions are different, ECUs are different. Wiring is different. Motor mounts are different/different place.

ive been giving thought to the advice you guys have given me here. and im startin to give in to staying away from the v6 till spring when i dont have to have the truck on the road. winter is approaching fast. as far as the 2.7l 3rz goes... do i need a new harness and tranny for that? or am i better off putting a 22re back into the truck. I need the quickest and easiest option for now just to last me the next couple months.

Quickest, easiest option for now, just put a 22RE in that thing, and drive it. It'll be gutless, but a 22RE is always faster than pushing.

I wrote a really detailed description of what my recommendations were, but my computer flipped out right towards the end. So I'll make it short this time, dont do anything with the 3.0, sell it and get anything for it you can then put that money towards a rebuild kit for the 22re, trust me it's worth it to rebuild that motor because there are plenty of upgrades for that motor... enough to pull 44's if you want (with the proper gearing of course) I have a 3.slow in my truck and it's so gutless I'm embarrassed to have people ride with me. The 3.0 is not a proper representation of the toyota pickup and they fixed that issue by creating the 3.4. nuff said any more questions ask, that's what this forum is for. Dont let people scare you off because they think you asked redundant questions.

I say rebuild the 22 I just did mine and put the head with oversized valves a 268 engnbldr cam and run at 65-70 all day(85 is as fast as I have run it so far but don't think 90-95 is out of the question) with no problems on 35's with a 5 speed and 5.29's my 3.0 set up the same way will run that speed but it works at it and the fuel mileage is worse then the 17 ( still under 1,000 miles since rebuild)I get with the 22re

If you don't want more problems. stay away from that engine. if you have everthing to go with the 3.0, go on and swapped, you will have to relocate the motor mounts, and cross member, other than that is only work, work, work.

well i really appreciate the advice guys! im saving the 3.0 for the spring. but if the 22re has a great rebuild kit, and its better off than the 3.slow then maybe ill wait to find a 3.4. i had a 2004 tacoma with the 3.4 and i loved that motor, but i flipped the truck. i got pics floating around somewhere. anyways i sold it flipped and still got a load for it. im goin to try to find site somewhere with a rebuild kit. im really lookin at just getting it running for a couple months till spring comes then im taking it off the road and using my other truck and building a monster. the one i have to swap from has 3" body lift, 6" suspension and got an sas waitin to go in. ifs in it right now with 34's on it, 38's on rims waitin to go. 3.slow with 5spd and some aftermarket gearing, gotta find the papers so i know whats in the rear. just the frame rotted and i tanked a tree head on with no breaks. how long on average for your average mechanically inclined home mechanic would it take to do the rebuild? ive worked mostly with chevy and can do wonders on those, toyotas are new to me motor wise. although ive played with a few mr2's, supras and my fiance's celicas.
