82 toyota turning into 82 chevota
I realize i will probably make some people mad on here so i am sorry for that.. BUT. I haven't been able to find any good SWAP threads on here so if anyone knows of a thread that is specifically for someone wanting to do a sbc swap let me know but for now im starting one!!!!! First up is some pics of the original as it sat 4 months ago, a list of my plans, and some of the progress.... MIND YOU I am not rich so this will be slow so please be patient and opinions are very welcome.. ill probably be asking for advice too.
here is one showing the NO FLEXING SOB!!!!!
And here is some of it just sitting STOCK
OK so thats the way it was sitting.
Plans:
1. I had a 305 given to me for free so thats whats going in!! yes the 4.3 would be easier but i dont care i want the V8!! and eventually itll probably get a 350 WAY down the road but for now the 305 is JUST FINE!!!
2. SM465 Trans and NP205 Transfer case. Also FREE!!!!!
3. 14 Bolt Dana 44 full width Rear axle.
4. Dana 44 Full width Front axle.
5. 3" Body Lift.
6. 7" Superlift Suspension Lift with Revolver Shackles Front and Rear.
7. I am thinking 4.56 gears Front and rear with lockers just haven't decided
Which lockers yet Suggestions?????? I was thinking ARB front and rear but
Still undecided.

Here is the progress.. I am starting this a little late so ill just post all the pics of where i am and some of the progress between..

I Have picked up the axles and tranny, transfer case, and started the motor rebuild as well.. I decided to just post the link for the pics of the motor rebuild because there is so many of them..

nice. i have a 82 long bed that i cut the frame and put a flatbed on. it has a 350 th350 and 205. soon to be a 700r4 with twin yota case's 2.28 front 4.7 rear. fun truck.

Just my opinion but I have heard that a 700r4 is a pretty weak trans for 4x4, I would recommend something different!! Where did you put the radiator and fan on yours?? Were you able o fit it up front and if so did you use electric fans?

from what i have heard the 700r4 has gotten a bad rep from the earlier years, but the later years seem to hold up better. mine is out of a 90. i have put a later model behind a built 454 in a early 80's chevy that's holding still. i used an universal aluminum radiator from summit and cut my core support then fit it up front with an electric fan on the inside. and rebuilt my front with 1 inch square tube. i had to remove my hood latch so i put pins in the front.

thanks. i built mine originally with a 22r cam, header, webber, 5speed, 5.29's, fun truck and did great. but i just wanted something with more power, don't regret anything yet. but that just me i also built a chevy on rockwells with 18 inch lift too. my yota is fun but likes the fuel. good luck on your build. how ever you decide to go.

Haven't done much due to working so much but I did move the axles around to give myself an idea of how much wider it will be!! Im liking it!!! I will post some pics tomorrow!!

Ok well like i said been working alot so haven't gotten much done.. But here are the pics i have.
Rear Axle pretty close to centered.
Couldn't get in front of the truck well so i just took a picture of One side to show the difference.
Here is a Picture of a little paint job i did!! I made a stencil I hope you can see it.
And i trimmed the inner fender wells where it was hitting the steering shaft and made the other side match.
Here it is where its hitting.
And Trimmed.

quick question. if your going for full size axles strictly for the width then i understand i think, but as for strength why did you pick these? your 14 bolt is 8 lug as well as your 44 front. but that 14 bolt is a semi-floater. it has a smaller 9.5 inch ring gear that a ff 14 with a 10.5 inch r.g. their a c clip rear axle and a locker is going to cost more. why didn't you go with a 6 lug 44 up font still as strong as your 8 lug 44 and a 6 lug s.f. 14. then you could keep your wheels. or for more strength why not get a 60 front and a ff14 rear.

i cant wait to see how this turns out. Im thinking about doing this in the spring. My uncle owns a salvage yard with lots of chevys so I can prolly the engine and trans and t-case for 300 or 400.

ok that sounds like a good reason $200 for both. and ya it should still be plenty strong, but wow 10" of lift. that truck is gonna be big. what size tires you plan on running? i just sold a ff14 with 4:10s for $50. should have kept it, but thats my life story regret alot of things i have sold that truck will be sweet when you get it done. can't wait to see it.
