3.4 vs. 4.3

The 22re is fine for now, but once the time comes, I'm not replacing it with another gutless 4cylinder.

What are the pros/cons of a 3.4 swap and 4.3swap?

I don't really need the pros/cons of the actual engines, but more or less the swaps themselves.

I personally like the 4.3 because I'm very familiar with GM Engines. My biggest question about the 4.3 swap is what are you guys using for the computer system? Stand alone is pricey. Are you using the factory GM computer/harness? If so, how do you get all the gauges and other toyota accesories to run off of it?

If I do a swap, I want it to be reliable, needs to have ac here in Arizona etc.

I'm assuming a 3.4 swap would be the easier one just because more of them have been done as far as I can tell. I could probably pick up a 4.3 here locally for cheaper than the 3.4...But again, a motor swap is more than just a motor. I don't want a halfass project, I want everything to work like it came that way from the factory when I'm done.

The fiance and I are stuck in an apartment until may, then we're getting a house..So I still have a good 4-5 months before even thinking about starting the swap. I plan to spend that time researching, reading and starting to collect the pieces of the swap once I decide which direction I'm going in. I've read most of the threads in the engine swap forums on yotatech, but if you have any other links with info/parts etc related to either of the two swaps, please feel free to post up so I can read up on everything I can.

I would suggest searching Pirate4x4.com for the 4.3 info.

We have a whole section on 3.4 swaps here on the forum as well.

The 3.4 swap will be as close to plug & play as an engine change will get and there is the HUGE advantage of using OEM Toyota parts which figures into the reliability equation.

The power advantage of the 4.3 is something you can't ignore, but if you need a few more horses under the hood the TRD sc will take care of that.

Good luck on your future swap whichever way you go

There are numerous threads on 3.4 in the 3.4 forum and 4.3 swaps on Pirate4x4.com

Try searching and reading for pricing.

The 4.3 will be cheaper but more work and then you have a GM product in your Toyota.

Do a 3.4 swap.
