1986 sr5 turbo engine questions
Hi, still new to working on toyota's so still learning a lot about them.
So i picked up a 1986 sr5 pickup, 22re turbo that has a spun rod so i'm replacing the motor. It has a 22RE turbo motor in it and i'm wondering if i found a 22R motor if there would be a compression difference between the turbo and non turbo motors?
Also it has an auto tranny and i'm wanting/needing to find a 5speed tranny to replace it with. What year vehicles have the same setup that can have a tranny torn out of it and bolted in place of the auto tranny?
Thanks for all the help!

where are you from? Are you considering selling that turbo motor? switching to a non turbo motor in a turbo truck is not that simple, your also gonna have to do a wiring harness and computer change.

Yes there's a compression difference between the two. N/A is around 9.5:1, and turbo is around 7.5:1.
You can bolt up ANY 4cyl 5 speed from a 20/22R to the turbo motor no problem (anything from 79-95). The W56 would be your best choice though. You just need the clutch and flywheel off of the N/A motor (which you need anyways).
I've swapped the turbo motor in my truck to N/A as well, I can give you pointers if you like.

Thanks for all the help. I have the block being acid dipped and he is checking the piston out because one was scarred up pretty bad so not sure if it can be repaired. Looking for parts to swap out to manual but are the drive lines going to be a different length?

Some people say yes, and some people say no. There was a kid that did a writeup a few months ago, I believe it was 89Toyota or something, and I believe he re-used the auto driveshafts.

Just so you know, I recently picked up a W56 with crossmember, I can compare them to tell you for sure if you need to know. If not, you can just wait till I do the swap, and do a write-up.
