Don't you have emissions tested in the inspections? We have.
You can add an intercooler (Paying an engineer), the inspector would see if the truck passes the emissions that were valid when the truck was sold. I think mine is an Euro III. I'm pretty sure that the emissions will be less because it "burns" better...

Yes, we test emissions (exhaust gas opacity/k-absortion)in the inspection (I´m the inpector too ), but it´s not enough : you have to get also a certification of emission level from some independent research center (like TÜV in Germany or VTT here in Finland).
Your and mine original level is (93/59/II), but it fulfils Euro I (96/69/III) too (at least 1KZ-TE). And Euro III (98/69) with katalysator-uprading.
You are right, intercooler helps burning because of the extra oxygen, but the lower intake-air temperature could raise hydro carbon (HC) -level. That´s why the certification is needed. I think the laws should be same there and here, because of the EU... but they aren´t.

My friend doesn't have a hood scoop. I think he used a kind of duct from the front to the intercooler, like the KDJ's have, maybe it's on there because there were IC 1KZ-TE's sold over there.
I don't know why there are different laws, in Sweden, Norway and Finland seems to be a lot easier to legalize a SAS than here, in fact mine will be one of the 2-4 SASed trucks legal in Spain...

Mmmm diesel. Such a nice build. I know like 75% of whats going on there in your pictures and the speed at which you guys banged that stuff out just has my head spinning.
Although obviously now I know it isnt 100% true, I thought that all yotas outside the us were solid axle up to 96...

Hello,
It has been a long time since I posted last time. My friend opened his own shop and so the build was a bit delayed, but now the truck it's almost finished.
The rear wheel. Notice the discs and brake calipers from the Supra:
Last part of the exhaust will be modified to exit by the side part of the new rear bumper. So we can add a 2nd fuel tank where the spare wheel used to live.
This is the T-Case parking brake. We've to paint it.
I've to paint the brake calipers ricer red hahaha
This is the amorfous 3.0TD oil pan. Do you think I can add a ram assist without modifying it? Hehe anyways the steering is surprisingly smooth.
It's big!
E-Locker wiring. Used the OEM wiring of a Toyota LC 90 series.
And then we added our wires to arrive to the inside
Wires enter the body near the driver seat
Here we were testing all the wiring mess before installing definitively the wires, the ECU and the switch in the truck.
We touched the switch and then a nice sound came from the rear axle hehe
Also, we dynoed the truck to compare before and after the intercooler install.
In those two pulls the truck has the stock engine (199K miles), rebuilt pump and injectors and the new exhaust.
Results were very good, the truck was supposed to be 125HP when stock and new and it's 125HP now with 199K miles more... We expect to win near 15HP when installing the intercooler.

We've taken apart the dash to install the E-Locker swith and ECU. We've chosen to put the ECU behind the gauges.
Did you know that the diesel 2nd Gen 4Runners had a stock RR DIFF LOCK light in the dash?

This is the Mitsubishi intercooler and how it's fitted. We had to machine the crankshaft cover to gain a bit of space to fit it.
The brakets that support the intercooler are sturdy
Constant radius bent tubes for the intercooler install
Turbo exit piping
Intake entrance / Intercooler exit piping
Do you like my steering wheel? It's a Momo Champion and a TRD horn button I bought from eBay

It's a nice MIG

Hope you like it. I'm excited because the truck rides very nice (We'll try to attach a front swaybar for the long trips) and it's almost finished. The difficult part will begin soon, the legalization project hehe

My friend JF working on the intercooler:
The intake tube between the filter and the turbo is new. We tested it and it doesn't get squeezed when accelerating.
Nice flange isn't it?
Only high temp paint remains to do
This metal tube addon is temporal
Tomorrow I expect to have the firsts build pics of the rear bumper.

What better place for my 1st post!! I've been following this work-in-progress on a site in Spain, he has everybody's jaw on the ground with this build, a SAS is pretty uncommon over there and even less so with this build quality.
