92 SAS defective steering arms?
Hey all,
Ive been building my axle over the last bit and am finally wrapping up and getting it buttoned back together (woo hoo). However I’m setting the tension on the knuckle trunion bearings and one side would get so tight I couldn’t even move it. Through some trial and error I found that it would only happen while using one of the steering arms. Taking apart and comparing the two I noticed a pretty significant gap between the trunion and the body of the steering arm (see pictures)
Good one
Bad one
The gap is so significant I can see light through it. This is leading me to believe that this one is putting excess pressure on on the bearing before I even get it fully tightened. Are these just press fit and fix it with a press? Could I pack an extra shim on there to mind the gap? If I add an extra shim how should I treat the bottom/ opposite side? Is the arm just defective and shoot TrailGear an Email? Been battling this thing all morning haha

Well I added a 2nd THICK shim to the arm with the gap and was able to get the desired preload. The thick shim was maybe a tiny bit thicker than the gap but seems to make it work.
Should I be concerned about how this aligns the knuckle to the axle or anything? I mean if it works it works? I just don’t want to blow the though axle seals all the time due to misalignment

Those are pressed into the steering arm. It looks like it didn't get pressed all the way. I'd see if you could get it pressed all the way and if not, why. Contact tech support.
