The CB seems functional, after talking with Firestik tech support I'm hoping it was a problem with the SWR meter. Basically, the needle on the meter wouldn't move an inch, even in Calibrate mode. At first I thought it might be a bad antenna ground, but Firestik told me that when you put the SWR in calibrate mode, it removes the antenna from the equation, and you're left with the meter, the radio, and the jumper coax.

The radio, meter, and jumper coax were all new. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in my immediate vicinity that also has a CB for me to test. The meter was a cheap Radio Shack model on clearance for $9.99, so I rolled the dice and returned that. Problem is, I can't find another SWR meter to save my life, so I currently have a non-tuned setup that I'm leery of using because I don't want to hurt something from it not being tuned!

OK sorry for the ramble. Anyway, I think I'll keep the running boards on and play it conservative for my first time out.

If you have any advice on my CB situation I'd appreciate it!

I've used my CB for the longest time without tuning it at all and I don't think it hurt it. I'm a newbie at this CB thing so you might want to ask next door in the main forum to see if using it without tuning it will hurt it.

Yeah im pretty sure im gonna make it. Im probably gonna be going solo though which kinda sucks. Do you think it will be cool since I dont have a CB, no lift, have stock running boards, and not so agressive factory tires with 38k on them? If I go im gonna surely be all about the bunny slopes.

Bruce,

Don't worry about it, it sounds like the only difference in our rigs is that I just put in a CB. I'll be just as conservative as you will!
