Window motors work, but switch does nothing?

I can't put my windows down, but I know the motor works, because I took a battery straight to it and put the windows down, but for some reason neither of the switches will do anything. Is there a fuse to the power windows? Or some main power wire to the windows that might be cut or something?

Are you talking the rear hatch window ??

The windows in the doors??

There is a window lock.

In my 92 4Runner the drivers door switch needs to be open.

Sorry no, it's the door windows. The window lock is not on. Unless the switch is messed up and it constantly on even when not pushed in.

Just what year are you working on??

Has the vehicle sat for a long time switches do corrode

Depending what year your working with most all windows are powered through the door relay if that is not working .

Do the door locks work??

This is one of those things break out the Meter .

It can by any one of several things

Bad grounds, broken wires poor or unplugged connections

It's an '88. The door locks do work. I'm not sure if it sat around for a while, I just got it a couple weeks ago and am going through it trying to fix all the problems the previous owner caused.
