Switch to Hi-Beams, lights go out

Whenever I switch the lever to hi-beams, the headlights just turn off. I've checked out the combo switch and it seems to be working because the hi-beam indicator shows up on the dash, but just no permanent power to hi-beams. They work when I pull the lever back to flash them. Any ideas?

I'm here. I've taken off the level retainer and cleaned off the contact point. Is there something else I need to take off to clean or replace?

Remove those two screws and do some cleaning in there. Be careful not to lose the tiny detent ball and spring when you take it out. I had the exact some problem and a thorough cleaning and lubrication solve it.

Yeah I did that and I actually was eventually able to get the whole thing off to be able to check out the combo switch and all of the contacts were pitted so I took some sand paper to the contacts to get them down to bare metal and that's what ultimately fixed my problem.

Hey,

I just fixed mine this morning! Read this:

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...eadlight_Combo

I followed his instructions and mine are working now. You have to remove the lower dash, remove all the clips that hold the combo switch wiring in place, and disconnect the wiring connections at the base of the steering column. Once the entire switch and arms are free of the steering column, you can take it inside to a clean work area. The relay is on the backside of the switch, behind the high-beam arm. Mine had a clear cover over the relay. I had to cut a cable tie to move some wires and get the clear cover off the relay. Once that is off, you can move the high-beam lever and see how the relay works. I used some fine sandpaper to clean the relay contacts and gave it a light spray of contact cleaner. Put it all back together and see what happens. Be careful! If you bend those relay arms, you might be done for. Ask me how I know...
