New LED tail light bulbs causing front parking lights to come on

I apologize if this has been covered already. I searched thoroughly and could not find the same exact issue to get to a resolution.

The background: 1986 4X4 Truck. One of the 1157s in the tail lights went out and my son wanted to replace them with a brighter LED 1157s. (We replaced the right and left tail light 1157 with LED 1157s.)

The problem: It wasn't until I was driving it a few weeks later and pulled up to a store where I could see the reflection of the truck, I noticed that the front parking lights were going on and off as I hit the brake pedal. Hmmmm.....

Where I'm at now: I consulted my friend Google and I think I need some load resistors, but I'm not sure which ones and which wires to tap in to at the back of the socket.

Recommendations and which wires I should be hooking in to?

Thanks!!!!

Your fancy new lights have lost the ground so the brake lights are trying to ground through the marker light circuit. That is why they light when you apply the brakes.

Why you think you need a resistor I have no clue that most often is to cure the hyperflash of the turn signals and hazards.

I would clean your sockets and bulbs I use a fitting brush in the sockets.

All you need to do is give each individual bulb its own ground. I saw the same problem on a car show on TV actually. Hope it works!

Thanks, guys!

I'll have to take a look at that. I would have thought a grounding issue would have happened with the incandescent bulb too. Maybe it's just a timing thing that coincided with the change to the LEDs.

I'll dig in to it over the next few days and let you know how it turns out.

I did mine and no issues, bought the heavy duty flasher. Works without a hitch. Just remember any weird issues might have been happening with the old bulbs but not enough to see it in the bulbs, and led voltage is sssssooooooo low compared to anything if wiring isn't top shape or 100% you will have issues you didn't know you had.

Just converted my Subaru interior lights over and ever since when I apply the brake my CEL light flashes for a second, so annoying. So I didn't really need the CEL light led so I put the old mini bulbs in and funny you can barely see a glow when I hit the break but only if you are looking. So it is getting voltage from somewhere but I don't know where and really could care less.

Anyway might be something super simple, post results when you get her figured out

If the front parking lights are coming on when you step on the brakes, and have LED rear brake bulbs, you need to add a diode to each rear light assembly. See my post about it at https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f131...ersion-287299/
