Horn contacts

Horn contacts

hey guys can you help, i did not even know there were contacts on a horn but toyota said there is.....my horn has not been working for some time....so i took it apart










do you guys know where these contacts are located...thanks

You have to pull the entire steering wheel off. Remove the big nut in the center. The shaft is splined so you have to pull straight up.

There is a spring loaded contact similar to a motor brush poking upward out of the column. It makes contact with a circular brass ring on the underside of the wheel. Like any brush it wears out over time. An easy fix is to make a shim from a plastic lid (like from a coffee can or something) and place it under the brass ring to move it closer to the contact.

yup... and im sure you've allready checked that the horn does indeed work by wiring up to test right?

if the other steering wheel controls still work, it looks like the trouble would more likely be in the horn button itself (in the bottom picture). pull the cover down on the wire that you're pointing to and touch the connector to the big nut in the middle of the column. if the horn sounds, then the problem is in the horn button.
