Help for wiring up key barrel

G'day

I've got a 22R 89 hilux and i want to install a push button start.

From what i can see, i should use wire 4 and 8. tap into wire 4 and run to the 1st prong on button and tap into wire 8 and run to prong 2 on the button.

Would that be the correct procedure? I've attached a pic i scanned from my manual.

Thanks

I don't think its that easy... youd need a switch panel and a push button

I'd run 3 relays with 2 switches and a button (unless you have heavy duty switches and button)

I have an aussie made Holden Commodore. I ran the same press button starter switch straight off the back of the barrel. I tapped into a pink wire and a blue or green wire. The workshop manual for that is alot more detailed than the toyota manual i got(both from the same company)

It worked fine for 2years until i removed it to sell the car.

but you would still have to use the key to turn it to acc and run right? seems kinda pointless?

Yeah what you said pretty much. Still able to start with a key. I guess it is kinda pointless. 1 of the keys has the end broken off in the ignition and that key doesnt unlock the doors. I usually leave the broken key in the ignition. I will be installing a basic kill switch in a hidden spot.

Hey man I had this done to my truck because my kkey tumbler went bad and couldnt find a replacement. I didnt do it, but i know the basics of what he did. You need two switches, one for run, one for Accessory. and then the actualy push button. i wouldnt reccomend it because anyone could get in your truck and drive off without a key.

The start circuit has 2 wires that need to go connected if you want at least a push start button. ( not ignition or acc). there are 2 starter wires (pin 1 & 2), for that you need 2 relays. Do not put them together it will work but cause problems! these 2 starter wires are separate for a reason, let me know if you need a relay diagram to get this done, thanks
