Bright Lights Problem
I can flash my bright lights, but when I try and turn them on to stay on, it kills all of my lights! Anyone know what the problem is? And does anyone have a source where I could buy completely new wiring harnesses from front to back?

haha! i have the same problem...I haven't looked into it too much though...there's other more important things to worry about...(suspension, steering)
does the indicator light in the cluster come one when the brights are SUPPOSED to be on? mine does
I pulled that switch out and cleaned everything one time and didn't see any broken wires, but it still didn't work...you may try that...I'm going to pull it out again and just rig it till it works again
I'll be watching for another solution though.

Random ideas: Sticking relay? Bad switch? Bad wires causing a short?
You may find a wiring diagram here that will help you out:

Yes, my indicator light comes on... And I have done the same thing, traced the wires and cleaned the connectors. Still not working! I will do some searching myself for any solutions and let you know what I find.

my truck did the same thing, then they got to where the lights woudl just shut off, and then the it got to where the tail lights didnt work. the wires underneath the pass side of the seat were burnt up. i just spliced a new wire and bypassed the connector

I just read on toyotanation, which I am a registered user to also, that the contacts on the light switch inside the column could be fried... Not around my truck to check it out, but I will let u know what I find.

i pulled the whole thing apart an hour ago, did some continuity testing between wires like the FSM illustrates, nothing, everything is working there...the relay under the hood right next to the battery is working correctly...so switch is next i guess
on a good side note...I fixed my horn! first time it has worked since i bought the truck a year ago!

yea power actually goes through those tiny brass arms, the ends get corroded from a lack of use, you can tell especially if they "flash" or come on when pushing the stalk forwards but dont come on when "clicking" it back towards you. if you open it up and watch while going forwards and back with the high control you will see what i mean.
two trucks same prob in both, twenty minutes and some fine sandpaper and good as new, no parts needed.

May not be the cure for your problem, but in my #199 post in my buildthread, I have a way of cleaning and fixing the headlight switch problem. It is more of when the bright lights completely dont work, but am wondering if it is related.

I had the same problem. Flash hi-beams worked, but the toggle (switch to on) did not. I pulled apart my steering wheel and took a close look at the combo switch. Everything was in working order except the actual hi-beam switch (about a 2"x2" plastic electronic box mounted on the back left side of the combo switch). It was actually broken. I lucked out and found a brand new combo switch on craigslist for $65. Plugged the new one in, put everything together and it works great! It's kind of nice to see everything at night now . Whole replacement process is a breeze. Took my average skills about 10 minutes total.
