2nd Gen 4runner parking light/turn signal
Hey Guys,
So I converted my turn signal up to my parking light but I have run into a weird issue that I can't find much information on. I swapped the 168s for 1157(dual filament) so that I can run the parking light and the turn signal in the same housing. I pulled the turn signal positive to the big filament and the parking light to the small and both grounds to the ground but I could only get one or the other to function. I disconnected the turn signal ground and ran only the parking light ground per: http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/t...ght-19222.html still only one or the other.
I swapped filaments and nothing changed... Another, weird thing I noticed was that if I reversed the bulb (didn't fit into the socket correctly) the function would alternate. Like if I had parking light and turn signal switched on and the bulb in the correct orientation Id get parking light, if I switched the bulb around I'd get turn signal. Additionally, I'm noticing the speed of the turn signal speeds up if the parking lights are switched on. Does that mean that the parking lights are on a switched ground? Can't find any info on the 2nd Gen 4runner only 1st.
Im going to try swapping the grounds tonight since I ran out of butt connectors last night and it was too late to run to the store.
Thanks!

Also, not sure if it makes a difference but I'm using LED 1157 bulbs. The more I read the more it looks like it might be a polarity issue. Im not sure if theres a work around or if Im just going to have to use incandescents...which is alright, I guess...

Alright guys well I picked up some plain old incandescents and they work perfectly... mystery solved.
For the sake of the search engine LEDs don't work for the 2nd gen 4runner turn signal parking light

Well now I see your problem you need sockets with 3 wires
I Run LED lights on the corner and mine work just fine.
No wonder it would not work that is why I asked what sockets .
You need one wire for the tail light and one for the turn signal and one ground.
I can`t see how it can work now unless you changed sockets.

those do have three wires, the white one is hard to see in the pic (though the ones I received have red, blue and black wires). I forgot to mention on the post that its my front corner lights, Im pretty sure the turns are switched negative while the parking lights are switched positive which is why the LED did not work for me but the incandescent did.
Either way, thanks!

Btw, I have LEDs in all my lights. You need to buy a LED flasher. Take apart your factory flasher and remove the bottom part for the "polarity" to work. You will see when you do it. Works fine
