1991 V6 3.0 4runner Alternator
Ahh, once again I come to Yotatech for some help! I would love to add YT ROCKS! I am not worthy! haha well anyways, I have fried our wonderful 60 amp alternator, so its time to replace it, well I could always go OEM or even aftermarket from Autozone or something, but I really dont want just the 60 amp anymore. I am in the process of running about 6 KC'S, A front and rear winch, a 1000 or 2000 watt power inverter. On top of the LED dash conversion I did which i know leds draw less so no biggie there. And some LED grille lights that I wired into the footwell and into the back under the front seats. Oh, and a small sound system!
Anyways!!!! What I am getting at is that I need a little more than 60 amp can handle, I have read that you can mount a CS144 or something to that effect with little fab (adding a few washers). Well I was wondering if I can go and get something that would be a little more plug and play, is it possible to get something that is plug an play. I think you can go with an MR2 100 amp to but i really like the idea of the 200 amp cs144.
Also running a bigger alternator do I run a risk of ruining regulators and computers and what not? Well any suggestions would be great!!!! Thanks!

I just bought a 160 amp alternator for my 86 4Runner to replace the stock original alternator. This is a stock toyota alternator thats rebuilt to put out more power. I got it from
pro starter and alternators

pro.starter.alternators@gmail.com
there located in san diego.
They will have a hight output alternator to replace your stock one, or they can build one to your specs. I paid 165 dollars for the one i bought.

Do you need any external voltage regulators or anything to that effect? Did you pick yours up or did they ship it to you? What kind of warranty do they have?
Wow but a 160 amp alternator for only 165 thats really good! What kind of amperage does it put out at idle?

You don`t need an external voltage regulator and i had it shipped to me. I didn`t ask what the warranty is or how many amps it puts out at idle, and that was stupid on my part not to ask. Im sure if you email then they could give you all of that information. Im going to email them and ask about the warranty and how many amps it puts out at idle.

Okay, well then if you are going to email them. I will wait and see what comes your way, What was the turn around time with them? Anyways I am curious to know what they say, I am still without an alternator, which means that I dont have my 4runner which is a bummer! Well anyways let me know what happens?!

because you won't like the answer. I went into this a few years back and the problem is that the stock sized alternators can only be made to put out that kind of amperage at a much higher RPM than is practical. The only way to get 160 amps at idle is to use a bigger case.. That's what they should tell you..

I called pro starter and alternator today and asked about the warranty, the warranty is one year, and the alternator output at idle is around 30 amps, at around 1500-1800 rpm`s the output of the alternator starts to go up from there.

i asked about idle amps for the one i just ordered and they said idle amps depend on my idle speed obviously but also that it will be between 10-15 idle amps over stock
