1986 4runner hardwiring

Hi I just purchased a 1986 4runner thats got some wiring issues....the running lights have been hardwired...there is no radio or speakers....and now to the issue NO DASHLIGHTS anyone know what wire it would be behind my dash panel that i could hardwire them in so i can turn them on with the running lights...having to use my cell phone to check my speed sucks any help would be appreciated thanks.

You might want to check what is left of the factory radio wiring. Could be those old wires are not properly insulated and are shorting out. That is tied into the dash lights, so would be a good place to start. Make sure each wire is separate and then wrapped in electrical tape or heat shrink so that the bare end can't touch anything conductive.

Otherwise, download a copy of the factory service manual (FSM) wiring diagram and start digging.

the factory stereo harness is still in the truck so I guess it's digging for me. Any ideas where I could find a free fsm download?

Ok so got it wired in but have to pull the fuse to turn it off cuz it won't turn off with the switch any clues what I may have done wrong :-(

It's wired to a switch that my running lights are also wired into...they turn off with the switch however but the dash lights stay on even tho the switch is off

The dash back lights typically get their power from the tail light relay and fuse and are grounded via the dimmer rheostat. So something is probably messed up with that circuit.

I'm going to hardwire the charger on it so I don't have to run the wire to the 12v plug down by my shifter.
